“As We Stumble Along” is the fifth song in The Drowsy Chaperone. The show premiered on Broadway in 2006, with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and book by Bob Martin (The Prom) and Don McKellar. This song features Bob Martin as the narrator “Man in Chair“ and Beth Leavel (The Prom) as the title character. Both actors were nominated for their roles, and Leavel took home a Tony for it.
Lisa Lambert was the first woman composer/lyricist to win the Best Original Score Tony Award, in 2006, for The Drowsy Chaperone, which she shared with Greg Morrison. They both shared credit for music and lyrics.
