More Naddpod Campaign 3 thoughts (but it’s all Kildé family stuff)

SPOILERS FOR NADDPOD CAMPAIGN 3

So during an earlier episode of campaign 3 (I don’t recall the exact episode[s?], but I know it’s pre-Hardwon arc), we hear Calder’s siblings referred to as “brothers and sisters”. I also recall a specific flashback to Calder being defended by an older sister, but for the life of me I can’t find it, so that one might be accidentally made up. We know in the Tsunare arc (I believe) that Calder actually has two siblings: twin brothers by the names of Gowan and Gregor. So why this discrepancy?

The “real” answer, of course, is that Jake and Murph had likely not fleshed out all of the Kilde’s. Ignoring that, there are more fun things that can be extrapolated. This could also mean that Calder had other siblings that have passed away (at least two sisters to justify it I guess), or maybe that he thinks of his brother’s friends to be like his siblings. However, there is a much better explanation in my heart.

Gowan is TRANS. In my mind, Gowan is a trans man/masc. That would explain why Calder referred to the twins as brothers and sisters. However, it doesn’t really explain the plural of brotherS and sisterS, nor how Calder would’ve found out about the transition, as he stopped referring to his siblings as brothers and sisters while he was imprisoned in Ultrus’ helm. And since that bit of logic is thrown out, I can kinda just rewrite the whole timeline of Calder pre-campaign three.

I can see a couple possibilities. One, Gowan comes out in his late childhood, around when Calder is born. Gregor is happy to have gained another brother (I love trans twin narratives), and the Kilde’s are supportive of him and his transition. I think Mira and Yerg treated him basically the same, with the exception of Mira being over-enthusiastic about masculine terms (dude, bro, son, etc) and correcting people. Yerg is like “Oh, you’re a man now? Huh, ok. Come help me in the meat shed.” I imagine that Gregor and Boris Frigg did a bunch of dumb stuff to “indoctrinate” Gowan into being a dude, like weird gross challenges. Not to make him prove himself, more like “Oh yah all the guys in the village did this one stunt, now you gotta do it!”.

I also heavily headcanon Calder as a trans guy. I think there’s a world where that’s a big reason Calder looks up to Gowan, because he’s like an elder trans who walked the path he’s on now. The flashback Gowan and Calder have to the one summer where Calder was getting bullied really bad was, in my mind, when Calder was confused about his gender and around when he came out. Not only did Gowan train him in the meat shed, he also told him about his experience being trans, and helped him come out to the rest of the family. The Kilde respond was about the same, plus the extra protectiveness that was standard with Calder.

So this was gonna be more than just Kilde stuff, but this is already so long. I’ll talk about the other stuff (duck team queer headcanons, different variations of band of boobs x duck team) in another post I guess.

it makes me SO sad that there aren't hundreds of (fellow) freaks who have decided that gregor is their favorite season 3 NPC and drawn endless fanart of that dirtbag. Caldwell's Kilde family portrait lives permanently in my head. i've watched too much wrestling and now i think canadians/frost giants with mullets are hot. it's killing me.
