Level design Fundamentals - Post Mortem
I have just finished making a level for my course at AIE( Academy of Interactive Entertainment) and it has been an interesting experience.
I was given an assignment to make a level for a game. We were put into groups of four. What you do in the game is there are 2 players and each person is trying to collect the most amount of ducks. Whoever has the collected the most amount of ducks by the 4th round wins the game.
We started by choosing an area around Melbourne, we want to base the level off. My group chose hosier lane.
We started by sketching out ideas for what the level was going to be like. After some group discussions and many different ideas and sketches, we agreed upon a design.
Fixed camera action!
Here’s peek at the grey box pass for the demo based on the floor plan I drew for the map earlier. This is how transitioning between different shots will work in the game.
(All assets, character models, and textures are effectively placeholder. The game’s look is going to come together more after the level design is blocked out.)
End of Year Project - Part 9
Adjusted the size of the level again and removed assets due to time constraints
i’ve currently been working on a small 3d environment as a personal project and here are some pretty rough concepts and a screenshot of the grey box in progress. it’s a crystal themed cafe that i’m just slowly working on to keep me doing 3d stuff
Grey boxing for a functional game
Today i got stuck into creating a very quick and rough level for a duck collecting game to establish feel.
Trying. Failing. Trying Again.
So today we were tasked with leading the player along a path without actually forcing them through a narrow corridor.
Guiding the Player
I did another exercise in attempt to build on my skills within level design.
