I literally just cannot handle too much depressing shit, and it’s definitely not because I spend a lot of time pretending the world is sunshine and roses - I’m not really even capable of that anymore.

It’s because I’m a raw nerve exposed by years of being worn away by continual trauma and mental illness. One more awful thing is sometimes too much. And darkness and cynicism and torment don’t make a fun mental playground for me anymore. I don’t feel edgy or poetic when faced with it - I feel the need to escape it.

And like, I don’t have a problem with people who can see art in those things or people who use it to leash their own demons but god am I tired of hearing that people who don’t enjoy art that is cynical and dark are somehow foolish optimists lacking in taste or any awareness of reality.

I’m hyperaware that reality is bleak; that’s why the worlds I escape into can’t be.
