Are there any GRPs that are bred for sports other than dressage? Like those jumping ponies are nuts. Or are GRP almost exclusively dressage?
There are some jumping ones, but dressage is definitely more common. (and also the blog is a bit biased bc i’m on more dressage pages and that’s where i look) I know Quarterback’s Junior has been mainly producing successful jumpers. But he’s warmblood x welsh, but registered GRP.
I think @transperceneige would probably know more about any GRP jumpers than I would!
But other reasons there are less jumpers than dressage it could be that other breeds have been more proven as jumpers so why risk it, and if they jump and don’t move as well and they aren’t from GRP lines then they might not make it into the registry except to breed GRPs from so yeah. I know quite a few Aussie GRPs who jump and event, but not so knowledgeable on if any of them are in world rankings or anything!
And possibly also a reason could be that Germany is more eventing/dressage focussed. No famous German showjumpers spring to mind, but again I don’t really follow it. In comparison, I feel like I see waaaay more Dutch Riding Ponies (they have the same foundation sires and often mix their influential lines) showjumping than GRPs. But again, are they up in the ranking/likely to ever make it to those huge competitions? Idk *shrug emoji*
