okay thinking about Lan WangJi asking Wei WuXian to come back to Gusu with him. and Lan WangJi telling Lan XiChen that he wants to bring a man back to the Cloud Recesses. and thinking about Wei WuXian refusing over and over because he doesn't want to be punished by the Lan Clan. and thinking about how Lan WangJi never forces Wei WuXian to go back with him.

and thinking about the story that Lan XiChen tells Wei WuXian about their father. how even though their mother killed someone, he took her back to the Cloud Recesses to protect her. even though it was like a punishment for the both of them. he couldn't bare the thought of losing her.

thinking about how Lan WangJi only wanted to protect Wei WuXian. he wanted to keep him away from demonic cultivation, but he also knew that if Wei WuXian went down the crooked path and used wicked tricks it would only cause him harm, and people would turn against him and try to hurt him and all he wanted was to protect him and to protect Wei WuXian's heart and....

yet he never forced him to go back with him.

I’d like to think that during the 1st siege of the Burial Mounds, GusuLan (and even QingheNie) went with all the other cultivators because they actually thought that Wei Wuxian really was raising an army of angry Wen Cultivators. Like, no one can deny that the black propaganda that the Jin Sect did against WWX was successful because at the end, everyone turned against WWX. The Jin Sect probably showed some bullsh*t ”evidence” to make everyone believe them. That’s why I think at the beginning of the present timeline, besides the fact the he doesn’t care anymore what others may think, Lan Wangji was confident in bringing WWX back to the Cloud Recesses. Because most likely every Senior Cultivator there knew that WWX was not harboring vengeful Wen sects remnants but mostly elderly and children and that they wouldn’t harm him. Even at the 2nd siege, Lan Qiren didn’t really bat an eye at WWXs presence.

Wei WuXian  is like the most relatable character ever, honestly. So my school had a ton of rules and I remember them all being printed out in tiny lettering that no one bothered to read and half of us were probably breaking like fifty of them at any given time by merely existing inside school grounds and I thought I was weird for still being mad about that, so many years later. But then Wei WuXian was mad about the rules of the GusuLan Sect and then he went through terrible tragedy and he died and came back and turned out he was still mad about the the damn rules and let me tell you, in that moment, I felt seen.
