"Does it look to you that I'm having fun?" Gwen wasn't particularly sun and rainbows--never had been though the lucky few that got to see her when she wasn't stressed could appreciate her humor. Richard was certainly NOT one of those people.
Ever since she started basic he was up her ass--figuratively speaking. He always had to get the best scores, be the fastest, sharpest, toughest and show the fuck off. She was also all those things but he was a man. No matter that she was one of the first women SEALs, no, Richard had a better score for this and that and was like that for as long as they worked together. Well, not together-together but close enough.
She really thought she'd get rid off him for good once he retired (she would only retired with her feet up and in a wooden bag--even though she was training the newbies now, she was never gonna leave active duty, not when so many other women needed one of them there supporting them).
But no, one of the downsizes of working together for decades was that they had the same friends, ended up in the same gatherings and like today, ended up at Johnny's birthday party which of course had to wrap up with a bar fight. Now, Richard was late for it (shocker) so he missed (thankfully) how she got knocked on her ass by a pool ball before they got kicked out of the place.
"Can you make yourself useful for once and get me more ice. Please?"
