Discussing The Newest Episodes
Major Spoilers for some of our mods, so the discussion is under the cut!
Wanted was really REALLY good! I know I'm late to this party, but this blog was still inactive during it so I'm gonna share most of my thoughts here!
I already discussed my feelings on the Pink Diamond shattering in a different post, so I'll sum it up as I believe that Yellow is the doer of the dirty deed. But besides that, we have the new Zircon gems, the off colors, and the new fusions and name drops we got during the special! This post is gonna be REAAALLLY LONG!
For starters, let’s discuss what I think about Aquamarine and Topaz! I’m gonna start with Aquamarine since I have the least (even though it's still a lot!!!) to say about her. I will cover Both Zircons and then the Off-Colors after that. (ps this post is really large, so bolding is gonna be a thing until I talk at the end.)
Her overall design is pretty appealing to me personally. I love the cute blue dress and smol shoes! The colors blend really well together and you can tell she holds herself in high regard. Her Affiliation with water is also a thing I like, so more extra points there! I don’t love this little shit! In fact, the whole reversal of gem color personalities is really great! Blue gems so far have been more detached and bitter. The recent gems have shown that we have already built a stereotype that they don't all fall into. Aquamarine is a type of gem that wouldn’t be impressed by a higher ranking gem, which is something that really distances herself from the most similar blue gem to herself, Holly Blue Agate. All in all though her character’s personality is loathful and irritating, I find the way the character can exhibit those emotions towards her to be impressive. That’s why I like her, she's a really well-made character! She even shows her bottled up sympathy towards other gems in the episode “Stuck Together” Where she lets Topaz off the hook. I think her and that same Topaz might actually work together often. So it’s nice to see a cold character like her hold an emotional attachment to another gem. Something else I noticed about her is that her weapon is her water abilities, seeing as the weapon she actually uses is her wand. The wand that was most likely given to her by homeworld, seeing how it looks similar to peridot’s limb enhancer fingers. So I believe that her powers with water are not as adept as lazuli’s, or she would not need the little wand for combat.
Topaz is your general strong silent type. That’s what you would think of her character from just looking at her and seeing the few episodes she was in before “Stuck Together”. Covering her design, it’s nothing special and I think that was really the point. She looks like a typical soldier gem, she even shares colors with Jasper when it comes to her clothing. The short hair cut and visor gives her a sense of ultimate control in combat. It tells you that she is to be feared, and not to be trifled with. The Weapon she uses is actually a gem weapon, unlike Aquamarine. When she is unfused, it is a Mace, when fused, it turns into a Pugil Mace! While not being that clever of a weapon design, it’s still a new weapon and It seems to be effective. Talking more about her character is interesting. She is a fusion and both of them seem to be very close, almost made for each other (maybe even literally) Her voice (very contradicting to her appearance) Is soft and very feminine. I Believe this is why she really doesn’t communicate. It’s not a very intimidating voice and would throw off the general appearance she was made for. I do like the idea that being fused all the time with each other, has caused them to become in Aquamarine’s words “Sentimental” Basically they fucking love each other and I support them 10000%. I think this type of fusion is also sort of why Peridot referred Garnet as a war machine. Topaz looks like the perfect fusion for war. It can take care of itself outside of fusion and excels in fusion! Unlike the rubies who seem only really effective when inside of fusion. It’s no wonder that she's yellow, she's a perfect representation of yellow diamonds court! Strong, powerful, and looking from how she shifted from being evil to good to evil again in one episode indecisive and emotionally driven. Just like her diamond! Even if Yellow’s appearance to her subjects is only the first few, it’s true none the less. I really love how the closer to the pallet a gem is to their diamond, the more they act like their diamond. (which brings many questions about rose quartz into question.) All in all, she's more interesting in concept than in character for me personally, but I still love her.
Blue Zircon! Some call her The Defense Zircon, but I really don’t think this is her only role. I think all Zircons play the same role of just being a law gem. Playing Prosecution or Defense. Introducing a new gem with a completely different role from any other gem is really fascinating! Her entire existence is dedicated to the court of law. I imagine that our blue zircon is a prime example of Zircons. Her quotes about being loyal to the court for thousands of years cements this. If she was a BAD Zircon, she wouldn’t have lived that long. Seeing as it is implied losing Zircons are shattered if they lose the case. I’d imagine that blue would give Steven the best Zircon just so that if there WAS any doubt, the Zircon would be able to find it out. Blue really wants justice, but it also seems like she wants TRUE justice. Not just shattering who might be Rose, but being absolutely sure that they actually did it. Enough about Blues character though, More about Zircon’s appearance. She gives off a REALLY appealing style. A Large top to broaden her shoulders, giving her a sturdy and professional look. The Gem placement being attached to her Ascot is really clever! I also love how they managed to still make her look feminine enough with her lower half to make her look appealing and approachable. We wouldn’t want gems to be too intimidated of them to not be able to talk to them. Especially in a defense case. The Blue Monocle she wears could either be homeworld tech, or part of her actual gem biology. If it was her gem power to receive information across technology and use it to her advantage, that would be... interesting... but I believe her monocle is gem tech personally. Zircon also cements another idea by the fandom. The same type of gem looks different depending on the color. (mainly the hair is what we are focusing on.) We weren’t for sure considering pearls were hinted to be customizable. Blue Zircon’s Hair is different from her Yellow counterpart. People are giving Blue Zircon and Yellow Zircon separate yet similar Personalities, but I honestly believe that if their roles were reversed, Yellow Zircon would act the exact same way. The only reason that the rubies acted differently, in my opinion, is gem placement. seeing as they have the exact same gem placement, I feel they would act the same. Which is probably why they were chosen for the same case. Two gems who think exactly the same would be good for determining Guilty v Innocent. I do love this new type of gem and only prefer Blue Zircon because I’m a sucker for the color Blue.
I really don’t have much to say about Yellow Zircon other than that her Design is slightly different. Her shoulders are not as broad and she doesn’t have as feminine lower features as her counterpart. Her Monocle is also on the opposite side as her counterpart. Other than that, I really have nothing to say. If I did have anything to say is that i’m disappointed in the crewniverse for not staying consistent with their colors. They should have made it more obvious that she was yellow, especially in the scenes where she was directly next to yellow diamond.
Now for the off-colors! I don’t have much to say about some of them, but the ones I do I HAVE A TOOONN TO SAY.
Padparadscha Saphire is just gonna be pad for the rest of this conversation. Her name is just a pain. She really just boils down to gimmick the character for me personally. Even her design for me personally just doesn’t click for me. I do find some interest in her gem placement. It’s on the direct opposite side of our sapphire's. This really is symbolic showing how she is outside of the normal requirements and doesn’t fit in with the normal sapphires. Her gem placement might even be the reason why she is the way she is. who knows! If you really wanna know about her, just ask Mod Rose! She should know the most about herself I'd imagine.
OK! Rutile is my favorite off-color personally, so this gonna get a bit biased with the amount I might write about her. First I would like to point out that she doesn’t have an insignia, All the off-colors don’t but only Rutile and maybe pad have a reason. They probably reformed or formed without one. Their gem and the way they are is actually a really nice nod to real life Rutile. Seeing as they branch crystals often in real life. Seeing this happen to them is really interesting and makes me wonder how a normal Rutile would look. Also what Rutiles are even made for in the first place. According to their colors, they seem like they would belong to pink diamond’s court. But they also might be like rubies, which seem to be available to any court. As for what they are made for, They don’t seem like very strong gems, and they don’t seem like highly intelligent gems like peridots. I believe they might be generic worker gems. Basically doing any job they are addressed to do. I don’t think they would be in high demand and are most likely common. Then again, the two may look a ton different from normal Rutiles. Normal ones may be Larger in muscle mass or maybe smart and articulate gems. I don’t believe it, but we really don’t know at this point. Something else interesting to bring up is that they might be the only ones of their color. Seeing as they share a similar color to scheme to garnet, perhaps they were originally supposed to be a red and blue rutile exclusively? If they were to form onto each other this color scheme makes sense. All in all Rutile has a very curious and kind personality! We don’t know if this is from being outcast her whole life, so she would change, or if this is how all rutiles act. She is adorable and I love both of them.
Fluorite! Big Caterpillar momma! She's cool but I really have not much to say about her. I love the representation of polyamory that's for sure. She just doesn’t peak my interests much. We don’t know any of the gems she's composed of which is nice and mysterious! But since we don’t I really don’t know what to say about her. I like her and will probably talk about her more when we know more about her!
Rhodonite! OH BOY! HERES MORE THEORIE DUMPING!!! After I discuss her design of course! (man I'm really biased on who to talk about designs on haha, I'm sure the other mods can cover for me where I lack discussion in.) Her design really shows off what gems she's made of. A Pearl and a Ruby! Her frills on the top show her pearl and it seems most of the pearl aspect stays in her form. Not really much is showing she's part ruby except for her fluffy hair, top eyes and gem. Her color is similar to our garnets, leading me to believe this is a blue pearl and ruby fusion. Although the Pearl could have also been pink, seeing as her master could have been part of Pink Diamonds court. Morganite is more popular in a peach like color, so it would make sense if that was the case. (Morganite can come in blue, but it doesn’t seem as common from what I've researched.) Her eyes are similar to the ones we see with Rainbow Quartz and her body figure is VERY Garnet. I would love to hear more about the story between these two! It’s so cool to see that garnet isn’t the only one with a love sick ruby in the mix. Rhodonite’s personality kinda of makes me wonder though. I get she most likely gets it from her pearl side, but what about her ruby side? Too much of her is pearl and it makes me wonder if the ruby we have is more similar to Navy, seeing the placement is also the same. I’m just super excited to hear her story AAAAA she’s so cute I looovee her! looovee her!
