Another headcanon sheet bc I saw a specbio post about hearthians and had to write all the headcanons down.

Hal mentions "fangs" multiple times in narration. They don't mean it in a "traditional" sense, so thought I'd post about it ::)

Instead of injecting venom, fangs are used during tadpole phase to hold onto slippery pray

The "Fangs" sit on the lip & function more like a psuedo-beak. This is most closely analogous to dinosaurs, some of which had both beaks & teeth!

Since adult hearthians have limbs for fish-catching, fangs are mostly vestigial

They are still used for some social applications, as well as in mating & courtship
