4. "I didn't ask for your help."
Another frustrated grunt came from Jas’s bedroom as Shane cracked open the door. He peered inside, finding Jas on the floor hunched over a doll with an absolute bird’s nest of tangled hair. She yanked a small brush through it and huffed in annoyance.
“You alright, kiddo?”
“I’m… fine…” she grunted as the plastic brush looked close to snapping in two.
Shane chuckled and entered the room, sitting down across from her. “Y’gotta start at the ends and work up, like your hair.”
"I didn't ask for your help."
Shane startled in surprise. Shit. She definitely learned that from me.

“Are you being serious?” Haley looked at him skeptically.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” Sebastian tried to sound casual but found himself fidgeting, unable to look Haley in the eye.
“Because Winter Star is for like, families? Or people who are dating.”
“Are we not dating?” Sebastian asked, confused.
“Are you going to actually ask me?” Haley raised her brow in a challenge.
Sebastian rolled his eyes before begrudgingly taking Haley’s hand and holding her gaze. “Will you be my girlfriend? And will you please come with me to this stupid family event?”
Haley bit back a pleased smile. “Maybe.”
