"22. Following the rules is boring." with Kuroo Tetsurou
a/n: this was supposed to be about something else. Like boss/employee dynamic but then it's kuroo's birthday and who am i if i do not write domesticity? Thank you for sending one in biscuit <3
You had left him a second ago, thinking he’d behave. It wasn’t an irrational thought, assuming a grown ass adult with a 401k and his own gym membership would not act upon impulse. You think it’s actually a common expectation, unlike when the teacher leaves the classroom real quick to talk to the principal. Just like the teacher, you’re met with a room that has gone awry, wrapping paper littered across the room like eraser shavings and a room jumbled and reorganized. You don’t know how Kuroo managed to shift your couch away from the wall and flipped over the coffee table on its side among other things all during the time span that you were in the bathroom, but if there is anything about Kuroo that has stayed consistent through the years, it is that he never fails to surprise you.
“Tetsuro,” You begin to scold. The wilt of his hair only lasts for a second until a cheshire grin greets you before a styrofoam bullet hits you right in the chest. It flicks off your clothes and skitters across your carpet, but the betrayal meshes into your features in the presence of a slack jaw and offended expression.
“Gotcha!” He says so proudly and reloads the toy nerf gun and takes aim again at your body. Once he realizes you’re still too stunned to move, he deftly grabs the other gun at his left (of course, still aiming his at you just in case you tried to pull something funny) and slides it towards you.
“Okay so this is my side,” He points at the imaginary line starting from his diploma hanging on the wall, “And that’s your side. Let’s play.”
“Tetsuro,” You start once again, hoping to not be interrupted. He lets you continue thankfully, especially when he sees you pick the nerf gun off the floor. You don’t think he’s ever looked this ecstatic, features of an overjoyed boy hidden in his mature ones. “These were your birthday gifts.”
Then you point behind you at the oven clock in the kitchen, a neon green 9:38pm illuminating behind you. “It’s not your birthday yet.”
“Following the rules is boring,” Your husband says as he strategically fusses with your throw pillows. Now that you think about it, he’s definitely organized the layout of the living room to his advantage. He gets the couch and all its pillows while you get a measly coffee table and a recliner holding one small pillow for a scanty shield. Sure, the coasters could prove useful as impromptu daggers as distraction while you reload, but Kuroo also had the curtains to the balcony door for refuge.
“Oh, so following the rules is so boring, is it?” You ask, reloading your gun as quietly as you can with his back turned.
“Yeah, think about it. We wouldn’t be having this much fun if we waited until midnight for me to open these.”
“You’re right,” And it must have been how easy you acquiesced that has your husband turn around in suspicion, but he’s far too late as you’re already mid-air ready to tackle him.
He drops his gun in an effort to catch you and the two of you are a mess of pillows, styrofoam, and limbs on the couch.
Sure, following the rules may be boring, but living this life with Kuroo, regardless of how old you get, would always be this much fun.
