oh another thing I forgot to talk about after finishing tda: I really, really love Aline. she was mean to Simon in city of glass, and frankly also bigotted and probably sheltered, but she's changed for the better, which I appreciate a lot. she grows and learns and broadens her worldviews to one that is more compassionate. (since she's only a side character we never see that journey but it's pretty clear to me that it does take place).

that being said, what I love most about her is that she will yell at every single person in the room but then turns around to Helen and, in the sweetest voice and with a big smile on her face, goes "so what about you, baby?" I love her temper. I love that she will curse everyone out just to defend her wife. it's so funny. but also really sweet. also, she left her entire life behind to join Helen in exile while they couldn't have been together for that long when it happened.

Top 5 TSC ships?👀

Thank you for the ask! I’m so glad you asked me this but I am going to have such a hard time picking favorites because there are so many great ones.

1. Malec - they’re universally beloved by the fandom for a reason, I love them so so much (happy late birthday to Alec Lightwood)

2. Herongraystairs - in 2022 I did a ranking for my favorite ships and 2022 me, who had only just joined the TSC fandom that year, put Herongraystairs in second right after my OG first ship I ever shipped (Percabeth) because that was how much reading the Clockwork Princess epilogue and just TID in general impacted me. The idea of an immortal love that endures time and death was new to me and I cried when I read the epilogue at 3am in my room (I still remember that 3 years later). So yeah I can’t not put Herongraystairs up here. It’s been a while since I read TID I should probably reread it next year

3. Blackstairs - my TDA reread + reading Secrets of Blackthorn Hall for the first time really gave me a new appreciation for their ship (I loved them before but now even more). Also, I’m a huge sucker for friends to lovers

4. Jordelia/Herondaisy - half the reason why Chain of Iron is in my top 5 TSC books. (It’s been a while since I’ve reread TLH though, might reread it next year) I do love my slow burn romances

5. Clace - I love them a lot, and for good reason, they just keep getting better with every book and they’re the OG. That said, they’re not always the first that come to mind when I think of my favorite ships.

Honorable mentions :

Haline - I love them so much even if they don’t have that much page time. In fact, I love them so much that even if it’s false advertising when I wanted to convince my friends to read TSC I sent them a fanart of Haline

Lukelyn- again, I am a sucker for childhood friends to lovers and very very slow burns

Sizzy - I can’t not put them in this list, I love them.

KitTy - can’t wait for TWP I love these two

Thomastair - their BiB short story reminded me of how much I love them and now I really want to reread TLH

I’m tempted to start listing all the other ships but I’m going to stop here.

I’m excited to see Tavvy in his inquisitive 10 yr old boy era and see how his relationship with Helen and Aline has developed

Because I think that Aline would sign herself and Tavvy up for surfing lessons

But I also hc that Aline starts speaking Mandarin with Tavvy

Bc when Haline has their own kid Aline would speak mandarin with them and Tavvy is *her kid* now

And Tavvy has always loved stories and language and he is excited to have a language that his siblings don’t know so he takes to it quite well

Plus I think this would lead to some iconic Tavvy moments in TWP

BECAUSE

Jem is in charge of Kit’s training and ofc I think that Jem would cover all the regular shadowhunter demon languages and martial arts training

But I think that Jem would add in learning an Instrument and learning Mandarin into Kit’s training

(Esp bc Jem will speak mandarin with Mina and Tessa already knows it)

Therefore what I need to see happen

Is sometime mid TWP Ty and Kit have made it back to the LA institute and they’re having a big Blackthorn Family dinner.

And Ty says something to Kit and Kit responds under his breath in mandarin “i love you”

Kit ofc doesn’t expect anyone to hear him, much less understand

But Mr Nosy “I will never be left behind on info again” Tavvy is like loudly “Kit why did you just tell Ty that you love him?”
