Did a little hand stitching today on one of my outreach projects!

I finished appliqueing my second big lily flower, so that puts me about half way through the piecing!

The full wall hanging was quite wide/hard to photograph, so I spliced the portraits :^) I did my best to be historically accurate in both their outfits and greater embellishment.

Once completed, the stretch in the shiny fabric resulted in a beautiful “cushion” effect. Couching gold cording around the opening hid all the securing stitches, and the ones around the swan were done in shiny, red thread just in case. Instead of regular quilting, each white center of the frame’s flowers contained a singular thread tack- like hand tying but you can’t see the knot. Yellow ochre wire ribbon was throughly tacked down in the “return” part of the pleats, occasional tacking along visible edges.

Medallion quilt with a shark central motif. As for how to create the shark I had 3 options:

1. Piece it traditionally.

2. Fusible web, raw edge machine appliqué.

3. Turn the seam allowance under and straight stitch around, same layered technique I use for literally everything I make.

The simplest route for my mind is what some would consider the most tedious, option #3. If this wasn’t going to be a “used” quilt I’d just hand appliqué it w/ standard needle turn. We Shall See How Machine Top Stitching It Is Goes. The second I deviate from my tried and true appliqué technique I tend to meet absolute disaster OTL which is why I know that option #1 and #2 would end up worse (=ﾟωﾟ)ﾉ

Mom and I have finally figured out a good schedule for sewing days!

I thought that would mean we would both bring a project and sew together, but it actually means Mom brings every project she's struggling with, and I help her finish them.

I do like helping her with sewing dilemmas, but it was much more fun when we finished with her problems and got back to personal sewing.

She brought a quilt to finish binding, and I got to work on a few Six Pointed Star blocks for the Generations Quilt!

Playing with some Generations blocks at Grandma's house!

Mom and Grandma are actually at the dentist's office right now, but I'm excited to show them what I've been doing when they get back!

For this layout, I was aiming for blue and pink blocks, but now that I see them all together, I don't even think we need to do that much sorting just because of how scrappy my Grandma and Great Grandmother's blocks are. But I'm waiting for a second opinion before I make any decisions!
