By popular demand i am bringing back #MusicToMakeGlobesTo. We often get asked what everyone is listening to and what music we’d recommend to listen to while working. Starting with our resident Belgian Sara. SX. SX is a Belgian pop duo formed in 2009 by Benjamin Desmet & Stefanie Callebaut. Their debut album 'Arche' was released in 2012 and has been followed by 'Alphabet' in 2016. SX' undertaking is multifaceted. Their music exists in an immersive surrounding in which they build video's, fashion, artwork & performances. Balthazar. Balthazar, a Belgian indie pop and rock group started gaining recognition through local talent competitions in Belgium. Their debut album ‘Applause’ was produced by two of the (then 22-year-old!) band members in 2010 & today the indie-rock band is hotter than ever thanks to their fun & edgy sound, not just in Belgium but in France, The Netherlands & Germany too. The band won a Flemish award for best alternative & best band in 2015 and were nominated for best album (Thin Walls) as well. Fun fact: Their album Thin Walls was produced by Ben Hillier, who previously worked with Blur, Depeche Mode and Elbow. Sohn. Christopher Michael Taylor, professionally known as Sohn (stylised as SOHN), is an English singer, songwriter and record producer. Following the release of the 2012 EP The Wheel through Aesop, he was signed by 4AD. He released his debut album, Tremors, on 7 April 2014 followed by Rennen in January 2017. Guardian says : "affected modern blues with some intriguing touches” and “straddling the worlds of electronica and nu-R&B”. RHYE. Rhye is an R&B musical project of Canadian singer Milosh. Guardian says : "The record is Woman, and it sits somewhere between the minimal digital funk of Junior Boys, the lounge-pop of Stereolab, and the sincere silken soul of Sade, to whose voice Milosh's billowing treble has been compared.” A few writers in the past have asserted that Milosh was female. The confusion stems from the fact the pair don't show their faces in photographs, with Milosh explaining: "I don't care about celebrity or too much about the singer or the person. It ruins it a bit for me. I just want to hear the music.”
While looking at these cute whales on the East Coast.... we are looking West for today's #GlobeFacts. How did the film industry end up in L.A.? To get away from Thomas Edison. Edison - who lived in New Jersey - held most of the country’s film patents. Filmmakers fled westward to avoid Edison’s intellectual property claims. Beverly Hills started out as a modest lima bean ranch. And Santa Monica Pier was originally designed to protect a sewage pipe that dumped treated sewage into the ocean. In 2006, a new tar pit was discovered. It contained the remains of saber-toothed cats, giant sloths, American lions, and a mammoth that was named Zed. If Los Angeles were its own country, its economy would be bigger than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, and Sweden’s. In 1996, Charlie Sheen bought 2,615 outfield seats at Angels Stadium in nearby Anaheim - so he could catch a home run ball. He came up empty handed. The Hollywood sign originally said “Hollywoodland.”. (It was an advertisement for Tinseltown’s latest real estate development.) Continues tomorrow with more #AmericaFacts via Yahoo Travel.

World domination.
Although he looks a bit like Father Christmas or Santa Claus, ‘#Sinterklaas’ (Saint Nicholas) is a very Dutch character loved by children and adults alike. His annual arrival and parade in Amsterdam and the traditional festivities that follow are a real treat! Saint Nicholas has had close ties with Amsterdam since 343 AD. Legend has it that Sinterklaas originally came from Turkey as St. Nicolaus, the Bishop of Mira, an honourable man who was kind to children. No one really knows why he then chose to live in Spain but historians point to the Spanish domination over the Netherlands in the past. The medieval attire of Sinterklaas’ assistants, the Zwarte Pieten, is equally mysterious, leading one to conclude that they must have been stuck in chimneys for an awfully long time. Hence the sooty faces and time-warped costumes. ‘#ZwartePiet’ (literally: ‘Black Peter’) remains the subject of debate in Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is actively facilitating this discussion and is keen to remain in close contact with all concerned parties. Once Sint is in town, children lay out their shoes before bedtime, along with water (or wine) and a carrot for the horse, in the hopes that there will be a gift left there by morning. The very good kids are usually rewarded with chocolate letters and marzipan while the naughty anxiously wait to see if they’ve been given coal, again. Although the feast of Saint Nicolas falls on 6 December, the evening of 5 December is the main gift-giving occasion during the holiday season in the Netherlands. Called '#sinterklaasavond' (Sinterklaas evening) or 'pakjesavond' (presents evening), Sint drops off a sack full of gifts on the doorstep before heading back to Spain. Following his late-night visit, much like at Christmas, everyone unwraps their presents from and reads aloud the poems that have been written especially for each recipient. The author of these light-hearted poems remains anonymous. The day ends with songs and a nap-inducing feast, with treats like marzipan, chocolate letters, pepernoten (spice biscuits) and hot chocolate with whipped cream. #GlobeFacts via iAmsterdam | globe : 50cm in Cobalt | www.bellerbyandco.com
