I’m rewatching Nobody right now and GOD I FORGOT HOW GOOD THIS MOVIE IS. The fact that this is only Ilya Naishuller’s second film is genuinely insane to me. The man DOES NOT MISS. It’s so fucking fun and it’s got stellar gore and ough it’s just delightful. Ilya may honestly take ANOTHER fucking favorite spot for me. Favorite movie with Hardcore Henry, favorite punk rock band with Biting Elbows, he made my favorite character of all time with Jimmy, and if his next movie stands up to his current catalog, he may dethrone Wes Anderson as my favorite director. Heads of State may be his weakest movie, but it’s still a ton of fun and its filmmaking, cinematography, and style evolution is so interesting and cool that it gets some extra points. Also it’s gay as hell. So I adore it regardless. Hardcore Henry is unlike any other film ever made, it’s obscenely impressive, and it is fan-fucking-tastic at the same time. And Nobody, while probably the most “standard” of his movies, is outstanding and in my opinion, one of the best action films ever put to screen. The man deserves way more recognition than he gets. Also his cameos are delightful and I love how he never gives himself any flattering roles. Anyway this was supposed to just be me gushing about some things I liked in Nobody, but it’s evolved into gushing about many things I like about Ilya’s entire career. And while I’m talking about Ilya’s entire career PLEASE CAN WE GET MORE BITING ELBOWS MUSIC I MISS THAT BAND SO MUCH I’M SO UPSET THAT THEY HAVEN’T PUT OUT ANYTHING IN LIKE THREE YEARS
