“Oh- OH! Can I just say how much White’s just- CHANGED?” was the very first thing Spinel wanted to get out. 

“Like- she’s NOTHING like the Gem I knew back when Pink was still-” Yeah, she’s just gonna let that sentence die off then and there. No harm, no foul. 

“She’s so- nice! And considerate! When the Diamonds took me in, y’know, a part ‘a me figured they were just gonna use me ‘ta gush about Pink and how much I’m “soOoOoOoOo much like her” and all that. 

And I’m not saying that doesn’t happen. But.. White always makes sure I’m doing okay when I get really quiet, sometimes.” 

She clasps her hands together, a soft smile on her face as she happily recalls her time spent with her new friends. 

Her new.. “family”, was the word Steven used for it. 

“White may be a lot less strict, now, but she’s still th’ boss! Whenever Yellow and Blue get a little too overwhelming, ‘cuz they always wanna play with me, White’s the one who gets ‘em to give me some space, most of th’ time...” 

There was more she could say. So much more. Just about how happy White made her, or how welcomed she felt in the palace despite.. pretty much everything. 

Yeah, Spinel could go on for hours if you’d let her. 

She’d settle for what’s been said already, though. Unlike her past self, this version of her knew when to quit. 

For the most part.

Mercy is an optimistic way of describing it.

In truth, it was more like dismissal. It was a kindness, to allow Pink to come back home with such a ridiculous shape and ridiculous form and not shatter her on the spot. Reconstruct from where she’d begun. Put the whole thing behind them.

For the emotional benefit of Yellow and Blue, she’d restrained herself. Told herself she’d allow Pink the chance to submit to her good-will, if only she were smart enough not to screw it up again.

But that proposition seemed to be falling apart rather hastily. Maybe even more-so than she had expected. Her expression doesn’t compromise, her same glamorous smile undisturbed. Brow raises inquisitively.

“Bold words, Starlight. Come to reckon with me, this way? I’m afraid you’ll find yourself quickly out of options in that case. If you were to throw yourself at the heel of such mercy, you’d find things would go very leisurely for you...If not? I can’t exactly promise comfort.”
