The fact Wiseguy gets a pass to do WEEHU and everyone acts so polite to him is pretty much proof of how little the hypnosis community cares when you are one of "their guys". If he would have been a woman or not white everyone would be attacking him non-stop.
To be fair- I think a large part of the community was giving WEEHU and the Headcrash/Panavatar duo a pass for quite a while by not speaking about them by name or making a bigger deal about WEEHU before. I know when I joined the community I heard vague insinuations that Headcrash had hurt someone somewhere and that WEEHU was sketchy, but I didn’t really know details. It’s only in the last month or so that more people were speaking out publicly about those things* and during that time I seem to recall quite a few people addressing Wiseguy directly. So I don’t think he’s gotten quite as big a pass that you’re implying, Anonymous.
Would he have received more invective if he were a woman or non-white? Quite possibly- we do live in a sexist/racist society** and implicit bias is definitely a thing. But- I don’t think it’s helpful to keep bashing on Wiseguy after he has both acted from understandable motives (helping/protecting new people), has decided to change course in light of new information, and has the steadfastness to warn people publicly about a dangerous convention even though he will likely get some backlash. That would be counterproductive. Wiseguy’s not Headcrash. He’s not Panavatar. He’s someone who can collect new information and change his stance without letting his ego or sunk costs get in the way. I’m not going to condemn him for that.
