Do you guys know what its called when you can hear colors? It feel like it isn't normal. I'm too afraid to ask my therapist because if I tell her I might get diagnosed with something bew and I'm afraid to Google it because the internet can lie. I was hoping that someone here mught know and tell me some of the symptoms? Thank you so much. (Tag as colors)
Hey lovely,
You’re most definitely not alone in experiencing this! There is a name for something similar to what you’re experiencing, namely synesthesia (or synaesthesia). ‘Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which information meant to stimulate one of your senses stimulates several of your senses.’ (source) Since we’re not professionals, we can’t say whether you for sure are dealing with synesthia. We also recommend you not to self-diagnose for the reasons listed here.
There are a lot of different forms of synesthesia. Someone might taste shapes, hear colours, have colours associated with letters or numbers or days of the week, etc. Since people experiencing synesthesia experience sensory perceptions in a different way, this can sometimes cause difficulty when trying to express your perceptions to someone. For example, you might say ‘it’s a really green day’ and to you that makes a lot of sense, but those around you have no idea what you mean by it.
I do think it would be good to talk about this with your therapist. It’s not so much a mental illness that you can be diagnosed with, nor is there a treatment for it. But I think it’s good to open up to your therapist because then they know everything about what you’re dealing with. Often, people who experience synesthesia feel like it is a positive thing. However, it can be overwhelming at times as well. Or you might feel more easily overwhelmed by, for example, social interactions, because on top of the interaction, you’re also hearing the colours. And since being overwhelmed is something you might be discussing with your therapist, it’s good for them to know.
If this is something you’d like to talk about with people who experience similar symptoms, you might want to search for a forum online, or see if there are other online communities that you could join. But know that you aren’t alone in this!
Sometimes what seems impossible, is just hard.Love Pauline
Just drunk a coke and a monster energy drink at the same time and now I can hear colours
Pentagram’s latest annual greeting is inspired by the phenomenon of synesthesia. Do you hear in colour?
Watched a video about synesthesia...
It’s a phenomenon that has always intrigued me so I watched the video. It wasn’t very in depth but I liked seeing the comment section and who had what. One person described seeing numbers as colours, but also gave the numbers distinctive personalities. I don’t have any colour associations but I DID give numbers specific personality types. I think it started in elementary because I couldn't grasp addition and subtraction so i played pretend with the numbers instead. 5- A noble hero journying across the land to stop 9 and protect the queen, lady 10 7- a sort of anti hero 5 meets on the journey. 7 thinks 5 is a naive fool but gets roped into helping anyway. they fight all the time. 4- this is 5's little brother or friend/sidekick he thinks 5 and 7 have a lot of similarities and could be a great team if they just stopped fighting. 9- an evil adviser seeking to murder or overthrow lady 10 8- a knight and body guard to 10 10- a graceful benevolent queen who rules over the mathematical realm and keeps things tranquil and balanced. 1,2, and 3 are advisors to the crown. they are sort of squabbley and brown nosers to boot, but 10 sees good intentions in them and a lot of potential. not all numbers ended up with personalities (that I can recall) but I still think of 5 and 7′s personalities often. Does anyone else do something like this?

Support Local Music. Ratham Stone. I love this song. Even though they never play it for me at shows. :(
