Akhenaten began his reign in the traditional sense. He finished his late father's #monuments and began the commissioning of his own works. But after a great vision of the great #solar disk, the #Aten, rising between two mountain peaks, he quickly shifted and abandoned #Egypt. He took his followers and moved them to a new city, the city of #Amarna, built for #worship of the one true #God, the Aten. The first #monotheist, and betrayer of Egypt, after his death his son and daughter were returned to #Memphis where they worked to restore the #religion that guided their #civilization for thousands of years. He was the only Pharaoh to be represented accurately in #artwork, a pudgy man with a long face and a hint of breasts. This was a serious departure from #traditional #art, which never changed over the thousands of years preceeding. His son was #Tutankhamun (#King #Tut) who reigned for only a short time before his mysterious death. Akhenaten's wife was the #ancient beauty, #Nefertiti. #mythology #ancientegypt #history #writing #beef #hashtag https://www.instagram.com/p/BtWdj6nHFKW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=jv12h089zjpd
