an interesting parallel i noticed while re-reading the hell of mirrors arc today!!!! / /_^.)

the original no.3 states that it wants to "trade places with the living," granting its weird little mannequin people the ability to steal the souls of anyone that wanders in there and take their place

this creates an interesting parallel with the new no.3, mitsuba, who also wants to be amongst the living, and also "replaces" one of them

looks like being desperate as fuck runs in the no.3 bloodline LMAO

there's so much to talk about mitsuba.... i adore him so much

the nagisa shrine’s hand relic vs. the oni

ft. hakubo, mitsuba & the hell of mirrors

i’ve always been super curious abt this hand relic !! it looks like a five-handed claw, assuming that teru chopped off the pinky (chopping it off like a promise broken AHEM THAT’S UNRELATED). the only info we get for this is

so we get the idea that they might’ve chopped off a monster’s hand and ate it. interesting, it’s not like cannibalism is anything new to us... WAIT...

we actually have. two repeated counts of cannibalism in this series.

AND BOTH OF THEM HAVE CLAWED HANDS

(they’re even drawn & shaded the same way)

this is actually a pretty big thing considering that the these things that cannibalize other supernaturals or humans were cannibalized BY humans to become these things. and even those cannibalizing supernaturals ony did so out of necessity, while humans did that for? recreation? powers? are we okay here??

there’s also a possibility that i love thinking about where the oni are somehow related to the hell of mirrors, and subsequently mitsuba. if only they’d met...

Ranking the Seven Misteries by power

(Don't expect anything too accurate, lmao)

1) Hanako-san of the toilet

He's clearly the strongest given that he's the leader, plus his Yorishiro is fully capable of killing the other mysteries in their own boundaries, so if Tsukasa is this powerful imagine what Hanako's able to do, UNSEALED Hanako specifically.

2) The three Clock Keepers

Do I even need to elaborate?? They have power over TIME, I would've put them first if it wasn't that it's canon Hanako is the strongest.

3) Shinigami-sama

He has power over life and death, pretty self-explanatory, even tho I haven't fully understood his abilities, living beings become weaker with his touch and Natsuhiko said that he can resurrect the dead.

4) The 4pm Bookstacks

I was actually unsure of this position, but I think it's fair enough. Tsuchigomori has knowledge about EVERYONE, from the start of their life to their afterlife ecc... Plus we always forget how OP he actually is, he can change one thing about someone's life, which is cool, but would result in his death.

5) Hell of Mirrors (previous one)

I would've put Shijima here, but technically speaking I think his powers are cooler. It's like a cooler (but weaker) no. 5, where he can know about everyone and use it to make them go crazy, or just generally learn about someone's life through mirrors.

6) Shijima-san of the Art Room

She can create ANYTHING by drawing it, she literally made a whole ass fake world where she's a God, because she has full control over it. Though she doesn't seem THAT strong individually.

7) Hell of Mirrors (Current)

I'm putting Mitsuba above Yako because *theorically* he COULD do the cool shit previous no. 3 did, but he's not a proper mistery, not having a Yorishiro and all. We also saw that he can use previously stated abilities (he saw Sousuke's life through the mirrors), but he hasn't used what I think makes the Mistery cool in the first place, he can mess other's minds.

8) The Misaki Stairs

She can...turn people into dolls...

I AM SO SORRY but her powers are lowkey so ass and boring compared to the others, which makes me always so sad cause Yako is RLLYYY cool!

Thinking about Tsukasa coming to the aid of Mitsuba in HOM but also berating the bird mystery for picking on Mitsuba like THIS is what he’s angry over. THIS is what he decides to kill the bird over 😭

Like his line of dialogue here implies he’s more pissed about this crow attacking Mitsuba and idk, it gives me speculation like… Tsukasa. Do you not like bullies.

“Picking on things weaker than you” AHHHHHHH Tsukasa is such an interesting character…I love when we get to see a more genuine side of him
