Writing Prompt 231
“Look, I’m telling the truth here, we wouldn’t be in this problem if you didn’t start it!”
“Me?! You could have always said no, and we wouldn’t have been here!”
“And it all started from you, don’t you blame me just because I couldn’t say no in such circumstance!”
“You know, as amusing it is to see how you two can pass the blame around like it was a game of football, I’m not here to see who’s to blame. I came to see if any of you regret it.”
Rando Prompt
A door appears out of nowhere in front of you. Obviously, you open it
It stood in the middle of the field blurred by the encroaching morning fog. A single red door, not a flaw on its finish, decorated by a simple golden knocker and an equally simple matching handle. I had never seen such a sight before. The morning air shimmered around it like it was giving off a heat that I couldn’t feel. It drew me to itself. Strange to think that such a mundane everyday object could have such an alluring pull, but I moved towards in none the less. My fingers traced the frame that it sat in as I stared into the cherry hue. Finally reaching the knob I pushed it open ever so gently, testing the last of my resolve. The pull was strong, I could almost hear the faint humming that seemed to call out from the other side. I gave in, pushing forward and stepping to the other side.
The field that I had just left behind fanned out in front of me, the morning mist rolled over the violets. Were there violets before? The humming was getting louder as I walked forward in confusion. It still stood there, tempting me closer with its beautiful red sheen. I stole a look behind me for the door I had emerged from, but it was no longer there. Only the one ahead of me. I ran, following its siren song. Once I reached it, I had to stop and take in its beauty once more. My hands moved on their own and grasped the handle and pushed the door open again.
The same field. The same morning fog. I didn’t think much as I marched forward never taking my eyes off of it. The flowers seemed to follow me slightly watching. The gentle humming stopped and a ringing took its place. I needed to get to the door.
I emerged again into the field. I felt a rise of panic now as I made eye contact with the red door in the distance. I needed to get to the door. I NEED TO GET TO THE DOOR. My head was pounding as I ran and ran and ran. The door was safe, I would be ok if only I could get to the door. I twisted the knob and threw it open, stumbling through. A quick sense of relief washed over me and then panic once again.
The door. It was still there. I could barely keep myself upright as I ran, my head spinning. I hit the door hard and fell through.
It was gone. I couldn’t find it. Where was it? My eyes scanned the field, it was nowhere in sight. My door was gone.
