@king-b0mbastic - Thank you for suggesting the scene with the Boil of Calamities attacking the camp! I was trying to figure out which specific parts from the text I wanted to draw, but it was fun :D
I think my favourite interpretation of the Light Fingers Crew is that nobody there actually has any idea what to do with a baby.
Dr Vaughan approaches everything through pure biology, and where it ties into the research. Infant care was not her field, so while she’s probably dutifully skimmed a manual or two - to compare an infants development with research notes about a miser - she’s far more comfortable cataloguing the Hybrid’s mandible development than interpreting its screaming. Is it hungry again??
Clarabelle was well into her somewhat older years with no intent on becoming a parent, an eccentric bohemian woman with her own rhythms and quirks, suddenly forced into motherhood with a child born from trauma. She tries, genuinely, but the mix of complicated feelings and zero experience could create a lot of potential "what exactly does this thing want?!" moments.
The Fading Music Hall Singer might have more of an idea given her...previous situation. But she might also have her own endless feelings of complications, especially with my previous concept of her not liking the hybrid. She might just keep her distance before she leaves, either protective of herself or simply overwhelmed by everything that’s happened.
Honestly i feel like Hephaesta might be the best-equipped of the lot. Not because she’s got childcare experience or intent towards motherhood - she doesn’t - but I think the 'Cool Aunt' role came natural to her. She’s probably used to wrangling young circus aspirants and scrappy kids who follow her around. She doesn’t know what she’s doing, but she barrels in with kindness and stubbornness anyway, and thats gotta count for something.
I am unfortunately not at the point of LF where there is very much interaction with her yet (still in the skin of the sun section), but a friend of mine requested I draw her. Buff women! Yay
bagoas in the persian boy is straight up like "so this is my boyfriend, alexander. and this is my boyfriend's husband, hephaestion. I hate him so much and I want him dead and the only thing preventing me from actually killing him is alexander's reaction" lmao
ok. canon characters time
1 is hephaesta and 2 is poor edward
3 is ferret, 4 is the wandering gondolier based on like his description and not his image (he was mostly just a warm-up so his design isn’t so concrete to me), 5 is ivy (specifically looking at my oc mantis as a small child, who looked like an owl)
6 is the captivating princess and an admirer and 7 is the cloistered diatomist
Also since the topic of role reversals got brought up yesterday but I criminally forgot to add any contributions.
If Emery got moon milked instead of Eddie, he'd probably just become like a stray cat that has decided it lives with you now and refuses to leave. I could see her getting violent, but only if provoked somehow. (I.E. someone trying to separate Emery from her obsession, which for me I'm gonna assume is Edward) Otherwise they're mostly just sad and pathetic and begging for attention.
That does make me wonder about something though. Edward had the moon milk vial in his pocket and was clearly going to use it on you. What exactly was he planning on you falling in love with? Maybe the zee, like he does to Hephaesta later? Or was he actually going to make you love him as a way to basically turn you against Clara and Dr. Vaughan? Maybe turn you into his personal attack dog/minion? That would definitely make you turning the tables on him and making him take the potion all the funnier and ironic.
Failbetter, where’s my option to ask Hephaesta out to dinner? Huh???
