Well I haven’t really posted in a while so may as well show off what I’ve been working on for my dnd game in the background and blabber about it here (since none of my players follow my tumblr(also if you are one of my players please look away :( )) A lot of this is just sort of miscellaneous and unfinished stuff but eh whatever
I guess i’ll start off with what I’ve been primarily working on. This is the map the players are going to explore next! It is a hex map made up of many actual in world hexes that constitute the terrain, and it is a MASSIVE work in progress. It is 10 by 5 miles in size, with each large hex being 1 mile in diameter and each small hex 1/5ths mile in diameter. I think exploring at this scale can be really neat because in world walking one hex takes about 5 minutes, so encounters and scenarios that can eat up things like hit points or spell slots may just be 20 minutes away from each other. My main work load for this is 1 fleshing out the map, 2 creating content and encounters to fill it with, and 3 make some dang ol’ lore for it. i could delve into the lore I’ve been thinking up for it but the main elevator pitch for the area is “Land bird riding Gnolls ride around and hunt big monsters in real wacky geometric terrain” as seen in this bit of concept art.
Aside from that, as far as content I’ve been working I have been working on little collectibles! Specifically things like magical words and runes that can be used for spell crafting, spell modification, and magical item creation! These are meant to be scattered across maps for players to find and add to their arsenal. I plan on making various different kinds of magical runes and words the players can find but so far I have been messing around with Fey runes and domesticated/urban fey runes!
The process of making these are really fun because i just make little symbols and gradually modify them to make them different! The urban fey runes were made more jagged for mainly aesthetical reasons but my in world justification is that urban fey carve these into the sides of buildings, and making everything all curvy and swirly is harder lol.
My deepest secret is that the symbol for man is just a dudes face
There’s a WHOLE LOTTA’ other way smaller things i’ve been tinkering with that i cant accompany with pretty pictures, so I’ll just wrap up with something i did just sort of for funzies
I made a BIG ASS map of my world and mapped out the different climates, ocean currents, prevailing wind patterns, and environments following videos made by Artifexian. HONESTLY wasted a bunch of time on this but it was still very fun lol. YEAH SO UH SORRY FOR THE LONG ASS POST BUT IVE BEEN BUSY
