9. Five facts about your education.
English major (Language and Literature Emphasis)
Writing minor (leaning more towards document design & editing), which I would have liked to be another major if I had gotten my shit together in time.
Dance minor, which was originally my major. This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, and though I cried a lot after it was done, I was relieved and I stand by my decision. Too many health decisions were getting in the way of my classes, and it wasn’t worth it when I would not have the stamina to do the job thing.
I’ve probably learned as much from administrative duties for my student organizations as I have from classes.
I (not so) secretly wish I could study history, but I just wasn’t interested in the job market for that.
15. Five facts about your favorite book.
I can’t pick just one because all of my favorites have had a specific effect on me at different times in my life. It would be like choosing between a childhood experience and a teen one or YA one.
Harry Potter in general: so basically I owe these books everything. I didn’t read before HP, and now I’m trying to work in children’s/YA publishing to give back (& increase diversity, representation, everything).
I will defend Ginny Weasley til my death because she is a level of perfection that not enough people realize. First witch in 7 generations, 7th child, and damn powerful. Taught herself to fly at age 7. Managed to work through her first year while being possessed by VOLDEMORT! At age 11! Compare to the trio struggling with the locket in book 7 at age 17. Had a ridiculous crush on Harry when she was little but worked past the hero-worship until eventually they just respected each other as people and friends and fell in real love. Professional quidditch player for an all-female team that fucking dominates. Held down Hogwarts while death eaters were running the school: she kept the younger ones safe, endured torture, and even provoked her enemies all in an attempt to help Harry and inspire courage/hope in the younger kids. Married Harry Potter - which deserves a fucking award because as much as we all love him, he can be a pain in the ass and impossible to deal with.
Woops there was a rant. So I will continue this by saying that there is so much about HP to learn and I feel like I will never know everything but I just want to read and study it constantly because this world is just gorgeous and has so many unexplored facets that I will never tire of it. Also intellectual debates about the wizarding world are my favorite activity.
The fandom is the best thing that ever happened to me and is directly responsible for most friends I’ve had in high school and college, as well as some of my happiest memories.
20. Five facts about any random person (it could be more facts about somebody already mentioned or somebody else you’d like mentioned here).
I’m gonna brag about YOU, Hannah! :D Ok so this girl is one of my oldest friends. We met in 5th grade and were equally terrorized by Margery (back in her evil days).
She is always there for me and we are twins because we basically don’t really need to explain ourselves. We just understand how the other feels about things (see: HP experience. Pretty sure only Hannah completely gets how I feel about that).
When we were at Infinitus and hanging out with our other friends somehow spooning got brought up and I had never been spooned so Hannah yelled “GET ON THE BED” and that is the story of how our fiveawesomespooning came about.
Hannah is really cool and plays lots of instruments. We performed “House of Awesome” theme song at her grad party.
She has a tendency to be unintentionally hilarious and also has a fantastic laugh that makes everyone feel all warm and fuzzy.
