What's the best deal that fae Nightmare has made?

what did Motti and fae Nightmare think of each other when they first met? what about her first caught and kept his interest, and (if it's a different answer) made him want to pursue her romantically? (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)

They thought of each other as really annoying. lmaooo

When they first met, Hiemal (might start using Hiemal for Nightmare since it is his Faeu name teehee) could sense a White Stag in danger while he was in Autumn for business. Instead he found Motti and caught her when she fell out of a tree.

To be fairly honest, he was annoyed, feeling tricked and Motti was equally annoyed because he was so rude about it.

There were quite a bit of quips hurled between them, basically two tsunderes clashing heads.

However, Hiemal just couldn't wrap his head around why Motti, of all people, would be blessed by a White Stag. He decided to let her stay around so he could observe and conjure up his own reason why she would be.

But initially what was the start of keeping his interest was that one day Hiemal attempted to get Motti to give her true name and she said only if he gave his first. It got him to chuckle. And it wasn't the last time Motti got him to laugh.

More and more, he was seeing sides to Motti that kept breaking his assumptions about her.

She was hot-headed, but yet if he approached her differently, Motti was very patient and understanding.

He saw that she was pretty open to people, but yet didn't like physical touch. But Motti wouldn't hesitate if someone, or a creature, needed comforting.

He appreciated that while Motti may have not been knowledgeable about some things and she would admit so, she would take steps to learn about it. He frequently found himself enjoying their discussions and debates. Hiemal's reasoning was sometimes on the logical side while Motti leaned on ethics.

When Hiemal had to return to Winter to attend his duties, Motti never left his mind.

He did try to play it coy and persuade her to come with him, but she politely declined, saying she had to finish something.

When they finally reunited after a year and Motti was a full fae, she was still the same kind of person.

On one of the business trips for him to select some fabric, Motti asked him to remove his cloak so she could color match with his wings and Hiemal was very curt with her. Angrily so.

He anticipated her lashing out. Maybe baring her teeth like her usual hot headed self would. He was even ready to send her on her way.

But Motti gave him a hurt look before it turned to understanding. She spoke calmly and comfortably, saying she overstepped. She even then asked how she could prevent upsetting him in the future.

She didn't press, didn't demand.

What might have changed to see her romantically is because of her patience and perseverance toward him.

He could see her being by his side during the cold quiet nights spilling his secrets, worries or hopes, and Motti would give nothing but the fulfillment of being accepted. Maybe even forgiven. Definitely cherished.

Hiemal Update #3

Intro

Hello! It’s been a while since the last update. I wish that meant I had another 20k words written and that everything was going well, but unfortunately it doesn’t. Since my last update (around 3 weeks ago) I’ve only written 4k words. Here are a few pitiful explanations as to why:

1) I started a semester of college and a new job :/

2) I spend every waking moment playing the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy

3) My motivation for the story fizzled out for a while. This ALWAYS happens when I “begin” something. Luckily for me the beginning of Hiemal went pretty well, but there is a 1 year time jump where I stopped writing, and it is so difficult to “restart” the exposition process. I’ve written 2 chapters of “part 2″ and have completely stalled on chapter 3. 

The Redemption Plan

I want this book to work, so desperately. I know that once I get through the strenuous first few chapters of part 2, it’ll start to flow again. With 25k words currently, I’m estimating that the rest of the draft needs about 50k words to finish. What else is 50k words? NaNoWriMo!

My plan is to write as much as I can throughout September/October, and then whatever I have left I will finish in NaNo. So if I miraculously end up super productive, I’ll have an easy NaNo, but if I continue at my current rate and hardly write anything, NaNo will swoop in and save the day. Then I can take a break from the book throughout December and begin the editing process in the new year.

Aesthetics 

In my appalling spell of procrastination I did manage to make an aesthetic for both of Torr’s friends, Van:

And Nik:

Van has been Torr’s best friend since toddlerhood. She’s the daughter of Hiemal’s leader, and is supposed to eventually be his successor (though her father isn’t exactly thrilled that his province is being handed over to a woman). From a young age she always asked Nik’s father to bring her textbooks when he went on expeditions to trade with other settlements. She reads 24/7, with an interest in the sciences, especially biology. Having so much outside knowledge ironically has an isolating effect, because there are few people who understand the scope of that knowledge. 

Nik is friends with both Torr and Van, but unlike them in that he’s relatively content with Hiemal. His father is in charge of supply runs, and Nik himself works contentedly in the Market. As the book progresses, Nik is victimized more and more by Hiemal, and he has to decide whether or not taking risks is worth disturbing his contentment.

Here’s the opening lines from the last chapter I actually finished, “Nightscapes.” I think it has some pretty cool imagery.

The night of my nineteenth birthday I had a different dream.

I watched myself step gingerly through a woodland. Birches antlered from the topsoil, mint leaves crisping on their spindles. All was dry and daylight but every time I glanced up the sky was strobing with Fibonacci constellations. Asteroids bulked with cobalt seared through the exosphere, beyond the spidery trees, and dripped into my hands like mercury.
