Thousands of years ago a lake covering thirty acres and reaching depths of twenty feet filled this small valley. Over time, mosses built bogs and trees sprouted here. One of the unique trees here is the Atlantic white cedar. This kind of forested wetland is usually found close to sea level and not in the mountains. At an elevation of 1,500 feet, this Atlantic white cedar bog is believed to be the highest in the world. #nj #njhistory #SpreadTheHistory #historygirl #highpointnj #highpoint #travelblog #travelblogger #blog #blogger #skylands #thisisnj #jerseycollective #njspots #explorenj #igersnj #ushistory #americanhistory #statepark #njstateparks #highpointstatepark #nature #cedarbog #cedarswamptrail #drydenkusernaturalarea (at High Point State Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs4MEQMFaQJ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=wpu95tip8pxp
