ek sher dekhiye ki,
Aapka Bunty.
~ Mannu Bhandari
Writing this after a major breakdown and torture the few last pages of this book put me through.
One of the finest pieces of Hindi Sahitya , it's a beautiful read revolving around "Shakun" - a mother who chooses to be more than a mother , the whole structure of her family starts falling bit by bit , when she starts prioritising herself and her individuality and starts being more than just a mother to bunty.
And then there's "Bunty" a kid- helpless, innocent and insecure , like every kid born into a difficult marriage or a dysfunctional household.
It is very hard to say if there are any protagonists or villains in this story,
Is it the story of Shakun ~where her dreams and wishes of a happy family , of finding love again being trampled upon by Bunty -a past who is not letting her step into the next chapter of her life.
Or , is it the story of Bunty ~ a kid who can not comprehend the reason for such huge rampant changes in his life and cannot cope and finds himself left out , insecure and an "extra" in everybody's life including his mother.
Bunty finds himself short of how this world of elders, of his parents , is so large yet so small to give him a seat at the table.
Tragedy of one becomes a torture for everybody involved.
I don't have the heart to read it again !
Bunty being abandoned by everybody feels like home.
This'll be my special piece i'll cherish for long.
Kangan is such a underrated jwellery...🫶🏻
Ai kaash hamari qismat me aisi bhi koi shaam aa jaaye,
Ek chand falak par nikla ho ik chand sar-e-baam aa jaaye
(Sar-e-baam - on top of the terrace)

I love you for reasons that were unknown to me. Was it your eyes? Was it your smile? Was it the way you talk? Was it the way you first looked at me? I don't know. Or maybe it as Atif Aslam said;
"Jaane teri aankhein thi ya baatein thi be wajah hove tum jo dil ki aarzo."
