So a fated mates omegaverse AU with Hidaka and Fushimi. Only the titular couple are not fated mates. Like one or both find their fated partner but Hidaka and Fushimi only want to be with each other.

Full disclosure: soulmate AU where the characters are not actually soulmates is my favorite type of soulmate AU :D Imagine this in an Omegaverse context, maybe there’s like this specific ‘smell’ that only your soulmate has. It’s hard for those who have found their soulmates to explain it, it’s something almost floral but sweeter, the kind of scent where it’s so unique you’ll know it when you smell it. The smell is for both alphas and omegas, like they both smell the same ‘soulmate’ scent and no one else besides the two of them can smell it. Fushimi is an omega who’s grown up assuming he has no soulmate, imagine his normal scent is very very light to the point of almost being nonexistent, even when he joins Homra he can be in heat surrounded by all these alphas and the only one who even vaguely notices anything is off isYata, who’s been around Fushimi so long that he knows Fushimi’s normal scent. When the two of them first meet in middle school though Yata thinks it’s strange that Fushimi has no scent but also kinda cool, like you can be super stealthy right. At the time it was just an offhand remark but as time goes on and after they join Homra it stings worse and worse, because Fushimi realizes that there’s no way Yata could be soulmate.

Then Fushimi leaves Homra and joins S4 and Hidaka is all friendly and interested in him from the start. Hidaka’s an alpha and he even has a very cheerful ‘sunny’ scent, and like everyone else he notices that Fushimi doesn’t really have one and probably assumes he must be like a really low key beta or something for a long time. Then one day on a mission Fushimi forgets to take his heat suppressants and no one even notices that he’s having a hard time because as usual there’s almost no smell. Hidaka does see it though and ends up having to like protect Fushimi a little and trying to get him somewhere to lie down. He doesn’t even realize Fushimi’s in heat until they’re alone together in the S4 vans and Hidaka finally gets why Fushimi’s face is so red and he’s breathing so hard. Hidaka’s own face immediately gets bright red and Fushimi snaps at him to leave. Hidaka is so surprised that he hurries off but he definitely starts dreaming about this afterward, Fushimi with such a flushed face and hair sticking to his forehead.

Hidaka decides to try and get Fushimi to go out with him and the other S4 guys are so confused because you know he’s not your soulmate right. Fushimi has the same objections, imagine Hidaka trying to invite him out and Fushimi all but slams the door in his face. Hidaka does eventually manage to wear him down and get him to just go out for drinks, Fushimi doesn’t know why Hidaka’s wasting his time with someone who isn’t his soulmate. Hidaka says he doesn’t really care about that stuff, he just thinks Fushimi is really cool and Hidaka wants to get to know him more. Imagine their whole almost-dating thing is interrupted by the events of the series though, and while Fushimi is infiltrating jungle Hidaka ends up meeting a girl who’s a new S4 recruit and smells like nothing he’s ever smelled before.

When Fushimi comes back from the jungle mission he notices that he hasn’t seen Hidaka around lately and even though he won’t admit it he’s pensive about it, like maybe in the time apart Hidaka’s realized that he doesn’t want to be with Fushimi after all. He eventually overhears Gotou and Fuse talking about ‘the situation’ with Hidaka’s soulmate and Fushimi gets this thin bitter smile like of course, that explains it. When he next sees Hidaka Fushimi tries to just walk past him, ignoring Hidaka calling after him because Fushimi knows full well that he can’t compete with a soulmate, he’s always been meant to be alone. Hidaka runs after him though and grabs him by the shoulder, like wait a minute don’t just walk away, do you know how worried I’ve been. Fushimi shoots back that he doesn’t need Hidaka’s pity and shouldn’t Hidaka be with his soulmate right now. Hidaka reveals that he actually turned the girl down, he hasn’t been in S4 for a few days because he didn’t want to run into her and break her heart all over again. Fushimi can’t believe that anyone would turn down a soulmate for him of all people and he calls Hidaka an idiot, Hidaka laughs and says yeah maybe he is an idiot but he knows who he wants to be with and he doesn’t care what ‘fate’ says.

i? found this on my hd while looking for something else and realized it works as a self contained little 500 word drabble so??? i GUESS?

Towards the end of the second week of the special forces being in a non-stop living hell, Hidaka basically moves in.

It's been a close thing for a while, a few t-shirts in Fushimi's wardrobe that are far too big for him, the small collection of videogames scattered on the otherwise barren shelf, two sticks of deodorant  from different brands. Things that upon discovery aren't immediately damning, can be explained away easily enough.

But after the third twelve hour shift of non-stop fieldwork, they both kind of give up.

Hidaka stumbles into Fushimi's room as soon as things calm down enough for the squad to switch out members, almost falling flat on his face over the clothes Fushimi had discarded on the floor barely half of an hour before collapsing into bed.

"... are you on fire?" Fushimi glares out at him from under the comforter, nose scrunched up in a way that Hidaka finds really cute if he's being completely honest with himself.

"Was. We put it out? I'm pretty sure I'd know if I was still burning," he lifts one of the very singed tails of his coat, already half way out of it.

"It smells."

"I know, sorry."

Fushimi's frowning now, more at how exhausted Hidaka sounds than the smell of burnt cloth. He doesn't say anything else after that, just shifting away from the edge of the bed as Hidaka finishes stripping down to his skivvies, letting him crawl in next to him.

Hidaka just murmurs a little thanks, easily wrapping an arm around Fushimi who's already halfway back to sleep.

The next night Fushimi doesn't even bother saying anything-- Hidaka has only been staying upright since they got back to HQ by very gently leaning on him, just kind of walking wherever Fushimi leads him like a very tired puppy being taken for a walk. Bothering Gotou isn't high on his list of things to do at 2 AM so Fushimi just takes him back to his room, sitting him on the bed and wrangling most of their outer layers of clothing off before collapsing on top of him.

He throws one of their boots at Domyouji's head when he bursts in to ask him to decode something three hours later. He falls over like he's been struck while making a really loud squawking noise, that Hidaka somehow manages to sleep straight through, clinging only slightly unsettled from Fushimi's movements.

Everyone knows but doesn't really, you know, know until Akiyama unintentionally brings it up the following morning.

"Did you forget to do your laundry last night?"

Fushimi gives him a look laced with even more annoyance than usual, like he really doesn't have the time to be dealing with uniform infractions.

"Am I not wearing something clean enough?"

"Not ... exactly. I've just never seen you wear a shirt with the sleeves showing like that before."

There's a long pause that hangs over the entire room, a quiet expectance in preparation for a routine biting retort from Fushimi.

It never comes, Fushimi glancing down as if to verify this information himself, face going very purposefully blank as he comes to the realization,

"That's because it's not my shirt."

(Anyone who audibly groans deeply regrets their life decisions when the sortie list for that afternoon gets released.)

Moving In

Summary: Fushimi buys a new apartment and doesn’t invite Hidaka to move in with him. Can Fushimi be convinced other wise?

What little cloths Fushimi had were all scattered on the bed in the empty room. He had just moved into his brand new 2 bedroom apartment. Computer and other electronic gadgets also cluttered the floor, but Fushimi didn’t care.

A knock came at the door. On the other side was Hidaka, holding a bottle of wine. Ever since Fushimi announced that he got the place, the taller man had been pushing him for an invite.

“Hi Fushimi.” His voice was bright and happy, as he strolled in. He looked around and turned to face Fushimi. “Say this place is kind of big… it can fit 2 people here”

Fushimi’s face was blank with a hint of annoyance.

“…we can hang out and play video games…” Fushimi walked past him to the room. “Make out…”

“Tsk!” Fushimi snapped. “Why are you saying pointless drival?”

Hidaka’s expression falls. Maybe Fushimi doesn’t feel as serious about him.

Of course this leads to Hidaka’s mood to be more subdue in the coming days. Hidaka still smiles and greets Fushimi, but it just doesn’t have the same energy behind it.

In the meeting room with the rest of the squad, they gathered around their moody comrade. They had noticed something happened between the two lovers. Watching Hidaka force himself to smile had clued in everyone.

“Hidaka…” Goto gently said. Only a groan was returned.

“Did you both break up?” Fuse harshly said. This earned him a light jab from Akiyama.

“No we didn’t. At least I don’t think so…” Hidaka replied. “He might not be as serious about this like I thought he was.”

“Don’t say that,” Benzai chimed in. “I’m sure Fushimi is serious about this relationship.”

“Then why didn’t he ask me to move in with him?” Hidaka cried. “I even put out hints.”

“So that’s what this is about.” Enomoto said.

“Look, all you have to do is tell him!” Andy blurted out. “You know how clueless Fushimi is.”

“But that’ll only make Fushimi push Hidaka away, being that aggressive.” Kamo said. Hidaka agreed.

“Are you eager to move in with Fushimi because I accidentally walked in on you both making out?” Hidaka quickly jumped up to late to stop Goto from finishing his sentence.

“Gotti!” Hidaka yelled. After a few playful punches Hidaka regained his composer, with a slight blush on his face. “Its not that. I just want our relationship to progress.”

“I see…” Akiyama mumbled.

Fushimi noticed a huge decline of cheerfulness in Hidaka. He couldn’t figure out why the brunet was acting like that. It especially annoyed him that he might be the cause of Hidaka’s sullen mood. He scoffed, “Ehat did I even do?”

His scowl soon turned into his self-hating smirk. ‘Maybe he already finished with me.’

“Fushimi-san.” From behind him Akiyama called out, pulling Fushimi away from any further negative thoughts. He gestured for Fushimi to come to a more secluded part of the hallway. Akiyama had his usual peaceful smile on.

“So Fushimi-san, how is the new apartment coming.

"Tsk.” Just earlier Munakata had been bothering him about that. Saying something about how to upkeep it or something. Fushimi zoned out before the captain even started his info dump. And Awashima was trying to teach him anko recipes.

“That idiot. He’s always complaining about the place. Saying it’s too big, and other pointless stuff.” Fushimi ranted.

Akiyama looked at Fushimi in surprise. “Um, Fushimi-san… Maybe Hidaka wasn’t complaining but was trying to ask for an invite.”

Fushimi responded with confusion.

“When your serious about someone you want to live with them, right.”

“No.” Fushimi harshly said. His mind went to the time when he moved in with Yata and how badly that went.

When Fushimi returned home, he looked at the door to the other room. What Akiyama said earlier was nagging at him all day. But seeing Hidaka walk around like a kicked puppy made Fushimi feel worse.

The next day, Fushimi walked up to Hidaka.

“Good morning Fushimi.”

Fushimi handed a key to Hidaka and looked away in embarrassment.

“A key is this…?”

“It may not be so awful to have a roommate.” Fushimi started and quickly added. “If you get too annoying, I’m kicking you out. This is only temporary.”

Hidaka heard none of what Fushimi said and threw his arms around Fushimi as his face lights up. There was a distinct blush on Fushimi’s face as he was complaining about the affection.

Hidaka giving Fushimi a nickname. He starts calling him Shimi-san or something. It's so casual that it takes some time for Fushimi to notice. Maybe Hidaka is sad (maybe a bit jealous) that they don't have cute nicknames for each other but he let's Yata call him Saru. HiSaru gives each other nicknames scenario please.

Hidaka being kinda cutely jealous of the Fushimi/Yata dynamic post-ROK, like yeah Hidaka is the one dating Fushimi and it’s not like he doesn’t trust Fushimi, of course he does, but he still envies some of the closeness between people who were childhood friends. Like maybe Fushimi does let Hidaka use his first name on occasion and Hidaka was pretty proud of that, until he hears Yata always using ‘Saru’ in an affectionate way. Hidaka can’t help but feel slightly crestfallen that Yata has something to call Fushimi that Hidaka doesn’t, intellectually he knows that well at least he’s the one dating Fushimi and so there’s an intimacy between the two of them that Yata doesn’t have but still…it would be nice to have some cute pet names or something. 

Hidaka decides to just go for it, one day during work he starts occasionally using ‘Shimi-san’ instead of saying Fushimi’s full name. Fushimi doesn’t really notice because it’s not like Hidaka is the most formal anyway, he probably just thinks Hidaka must have his mouth full or he’s busy and not paying attention to what he’s saying (the rest of the alphabet squad absolutely notice though, all exchanging glances, and Gotou who knows what Hidaka’s doing because Hidaka told him gives him like a silent thumbs up). Since Fushimi didn’t stop him Hidaka keeps it up, imagine he gets this little thrill every time he says it and Fushimi responds. Fushimi meanwhile is vaguely confused as to why Hidaka’s suddenly stopped saying his full name, clicking his tongue in response but not telling Hidaka to cut it out either.

Finally one day they’re hanging out together and Hidaka starts using the nickname again, Fushimi gives him a look and grumbles why do you keep saying my name that way. Hidaka looks a little sheepish as he says sorry, he didn’t think Fushimi would mind it. Fushimi slowly admits that he didn’t exactly…mind it, he just wondered why. Hidaka says he knows it’s kinda stupid but you know how couples sometimes have nicknames for each other, I wanted to give you a nickname. Fushimi stares at him blankly and Hidaka laughs again, quietly admitting that maybe he was a little jealous of Yata Misaki for having a nickname for Fushimi when Hidaka doesn’t. Hidaka says he’ll stop though if Fushimi hates it, Fushimi pauses and then leans against Hidaka as he says ‘you can keep saying it.’ Hidaka gives this little internal cheer and decides to step a little further as he adds Fushimi can give him any nickname Fushimi wants too, like if Fushimi wants to call him ‘Kira’ or ‘Hi-san’ or something. Fushimi eyes him and Hidaka’s like ‘…or not,’ Fushimi looks away and gives this small grumbled ‘Kira.’ Hidaka’s face immediately gets red at how cute Fushimi sounds and decides it’s probably best if they keep that one to when they’re alone though, he doesn’t know if his heart could take hearing that while on the job.

Hidaka x Fushimi valentines/White day scenario. Hidaka is making obligatory chocolate for everyone and then makes a special decorated one that's for Fushimi. I imagine the squad is cheering on Hidaka to give the special chocolate to Fushimi.

Imagine that even though normally guys don’t give chocolate on Valentine’s Day Hidaka decides to give it a try anyway. Really he just wants to give Fushimi chocolate and maybe confess his love but then he chickens out a little and decides to make everyone chocolate and a special one for Fushimi, so if he can’t bring himself to confess he can hide behind giving obligatory chocolate to everyone else. He decides to get up early a couple days before Valentine’s Day to sneak into the kitchen and make chocolate, except when he gets there Kamo and Doumyouji are already up because Doumyouji was hungry and wanted a snack. Kamo tells Hidaka he can take the other side of the kitchen and they’ll stay out of his way. Doumyouji wonders what Hidaka’s making and Hidaka laughs nervously all ‘…nothing much,’ Kamo takes that in and tells Doumyouji to leave Hidaka alone, his snack is almost done. 

Hidaka starts making chocolate but maybe he gets stuck and ends up having to ask Kamo for help. He tries to dance around the fact that he’s making chocolate but Doumyouji jumps in all oh are you making Valentine’s chocolates. Hidaka’s like ‘…maybe’ and then Gotou walks in looking for a snack and says oh, Hidaka is already up making a chocolate for Fushimi-san. Hidaka’s all no I’m not but it’s too late, Kamo and Doumyouji are both like oh a Valentine’s chocolate for Fushimi. Imagine the rest of the squad show up eventually and everyone wants to help him with his chocolate, finally Hidaka has to kick them all out of the kitchen because he’s making Fushimi-san’s chocolate by himself thanks. 

Valentine’s Day comes and Hidaka is all nervous, he passes out the rest of the chocolates but holds on to Fushimi’s, psyching himself up. Maybe some random squad members have left chocolate on Fushimi’s desk too (and Awashima gave him an obligatory anko chocolate, as she does for everyone) but Fushimi hasn’t touched them and Hidaka is all nervous about what if he gets rejected. The rest of the squad cheer him on though through mouthfuls of his obligatory chocolate, because it turns out Hidaka did a pretty good job. Finally imagine Gotou calmly shoving Hidaka towards Fushimi, Fushimi looks up all what now. Hidaka stutters out a response while Fushimi stares at him blankly, finally Hidaka holds the chocolate out all ‘please take this!’. Fushimi looks completely confused but takes it, he unwraps the chocolate and it’s this heart-shaped fancy one. Hidaka admits he made it, Fushimi clicks his tongue and Hidaka wilts a little. But then Fushimi takes a bite and murmurs ‘…it’s good,’ Hidaka looks up to see Fushimi has this little blush on his face. Hidaka immediately beams and Fushimi irritably tells him to get back to work, Hidaka hurries back to his station but he’s just smiling like an idiot as he watches Fushimi eating his chocolate and only his chocolate.
