at some point, geralt teaches jaskier to sew an chemise. it starts with a disgruntled hrmm noise at the market because it’s just so inconvenient to purchase one, no one has clothes just lying around, clothing is made to order, so they have to come back the next day for it, and it’s just very silly and pointless. geralt thinks his disapproval has gone unremarked, but jaskier asks about it that evening while they’re eating.
“what do you find so objectionable about purchasing a chemise? do you expect me to wander around with nothing on under my doublet?” jaskier says with no preamble.
and geralt replies, “it’s just a bunch of squares stitched together. pointless to pay someone to do that for you.”
“fine. you can teach me next time i need a new one.”
and jaskier does know how to mend and take care of his clothes--fabric is fucking expensive--so it’s months later that he needs a new chemise, and this time jaskier buys a bolt of linen and plops down in front of geralt and demands to be taught to create a garment. and geralt frowns, preemptively getting a headache because he knows jaskier, knows how easily distracted he is, and is expecting this to go terribly, but jaskier is quiet and attentive, like he only usually gets when he is really deep into composing, and totally focused on geralt as they figure out the sizes of all the pieces, and this is when geralt falls more than a tiny bit in love.
the way the bulk of the shirt front is gathered up in to the collar ends up not quite right, but jaskier has already gotten better by the time he needs to gather the sleeves in to the cuffs, and some of the gusset points are quite wonky, but they’re not really visible, so jaskier creates a perfectly serviceable and very durable chemise.
he’s mastered the art of insertion lace by the time they kiss.
