When Cécile and Grand-père stop by Madame Zulime's shop to buy some pralines, the two of them are confronted by a pair of white Anglo men who speak rudely to Cécile and her grandfather, assuming them to be slaves who should know their place in the presence of white people. Cécile quickly and bravely tells them off and puts them in their place, which is second in line behind her.

She does it while wearing this gold satin cape and lace-trimmed bonnet. It's befitting of a child from the Rey family, who, as Grand-père reminds the rude men, is very well known and well thought of in New Orleans.

Until now, my Cécile didn't actually have any outerwear. So I searched through her books looking for what I could make her. I don't totally love the light blue and pink coat that was released to her collection, and for that reason I'm not willing to pay a high secondhand price for it.

Besides, I usually prefer to have clothing and accessories that are shown in the illustrations, and the blue coat was not illustrated. Having outfits connected to actual events in the books reminds me of how the historical character collections were way back in the old days. Creating an expanded collection for my dolls who were only given small collections makes me so sentimental.

Cecile's and Marie-Grace's cookbook

I was inspired by the Caroline cookbook @desertdollranch came up with to make some of my own for the other historical characters who never got cookbooks. All the images on the front are from their paper dolls. I had to change the cover layout slightly so they could both be featured.

I've followed the format of the original cookbooks. All these dishes are ones that are actually mentioned in Cecile and Marie-Grace's books and I've linked recipes from as close to their period as I can find (with the exception of the tomato-shrimp bisque). Most link to some of the earliest published Louisiana cookbooks from 1885 which compiled recipes from even earlier.
