(Come to think of it: Asian cities with huge dense apartment complexes are also the closest we have to Hive Cities on Earth. It feels weird calling my city a city when compared to Chinese cities, it's just a town.)

Funny thing about hive cities in 40k rpgs. The population in hive cities has made quite a jump between the two Dark Heresy editions. In DH1e the population of planet Scintilla stands at 25 billion people. In DH2e, Hive Desoleum has a population of about 300 billion. What happened between these two games that made the writers think that the latter is plausible even in dystopian science fiction? I mean, there’s a limit to everything. I know the default sector of DH2e is supposed to be the absolute worst shit hole in the Galactic North if you don’t count the Eye of Terror, but still...
