📺 A local TV station says "Seattle is Dying," and recently aired a video showcasing Seattle's problems with homelessness and drug abuse. 🧟 The video has broken through the media clutter and tapped into the consciousness of millennials, which says a lot. It has gone viral here. Everyone is aware there is a growing problem with homelessness in Seattle. ⛺ Tents and dwellings made from pallets and tarps can be found along main thoroughfares, beneath freeway overpasses, and anywhere that is basically unmonitored. Sunday I walked across a busy pedestrian overpass 🚶🚶♀️🚶♂️ to take a look at the in-progress demolition of the Alaska Way Viaduct on the waterfront. 🌊 Slumped on the rain-soaked walkway 🌧️ was a disheveled man covered with a blanket. His worldly possessions were loaded in his shopping cart. 🛒 People on their way to the ferry walked past without seeing him. 😒 (I looked into his eyes and said hello.) "Seattle is Dying" indicated homeless people are unseen 🕶️. Many are drug addicts or are mentally ill. 😵 As with the ostrich that hides its head, the situation won't change just because we avert our eyes. If you saw The Wire you'll remember Major Bunny Colvin and his well-intentioned effort to herd drug dealers and addicts into ghettos so the rest of Baltimore could live safely and peacefully ☮️. There has been talk about doing something similar here, but a new U.S. attorney is coming and says he plans to uphold the law. ⚖️ We have a beautiful city with overpriced real estate, 🏡 wealthy tech workers 👨💻 and thousands of homeless people. 😢 This situation is happening in other American cities 🌉🌁🌆🌇🏢🗽and may be happening world wide.
