I'm a horrorkin, and I have a specific form that I consider copingkin, but that form isn't a real thing, the species has no name, and I don't know if there's anyone else with a similar form to me. The Long Term Effects of Kin Memory Dreams and What You Can Expect

In my personal experience, dreams in relation to your source or your memories can be very helpful in processing information that would be otherwise difficult to come to terms with in your waking life. Parts of you that have been stored away manage to find their way to the surface, and it feels like you are looking at things from a new perspective, one that may not feel entirely your own in the beginning. Granted, my experiences may be a bit outside of the usual, I would like to warn you about something else you may find when experiencing chronic kin related dreams- sleep deprivation, or oversleeping.

You may feel the desire to stay asleep, or revisit dreams often. Sometimes these memories that you experience in dreams may feel so real that your waking life no longer holds the same meaning. This is an understandable reaction to newly awakened alterhuman who have for so long felt that longing but didn’t have the names and faces to address those homesick feelings to, and those who are especially unhappy with their waking life. You may find the pursuit of these memories affect your daily life negatively at times, such as your motivation at work, your relationships, your mood and energy. You may find yourself wondering if the dreams you're experiencing are more real than when you are awake, and prioritize that over everything else. A quick google search on sites such as webMD or News Medical will warn of the potential risks of hypersomnia, with cardiovascular conditions being listed as a possible risk, among other possible health symptoms.

It is most important when you find yourself experiencing this to assign meaning to your waking life, through those closest to you, and through your goals and aspirations. Even small things can serve as a tether to the current life you are living, and remember; if you currently feel that there is no meaning, life is a journey to be pursued and you can assign meaning to it through time and change. A lot can happen in a year, there are so many online here who have experienced similar, who are ready to support you with open arms.

You may feel daunted or threatened by the dreams that you experience, opting to try and stay awake or minimize your sleeping in order not to confront your memories. You may find yourself experiencing anxiety or paranoia about the possible impact these dreams may have on your waking life. A lack of sleep can also negatively impact aspects of your day to day life. Your concentration will slowly dull, and you will find your coordination is off kilter the longer you go without sleep. You may find yourself seeing things out of your peripheral vision that were once only in your dreams, causing you to jump or behave outside of the ordinary to those that are close to you. You may find yourself feeling tense and discontent regularly, as if waiting for a punch that never comes.

The stages of sleep deprivation can be a frightening descent into the sea, but I promise you will reach the surface again. It may be tempting to try to avoid kin related memories when they are especially dark in nature, or for fear of acknowledging the truth of your own identity, but I urge you to confront these fears head on. I have found personally that the more you try to repress a particular memory, the more it seems to persist. Through accepting the memories as they come, it can afford you the chance to properly process the content of said kin memories and gain closure which can potentially help slow the consistency of distressing kin memories at night or otherwise.

There are other possible effects having kin dreams for an extended period of time can have on you that you may not have considered as well, for instance Dissociation. Prolonged kin dreams can begin to blur the lines between being awake and asleep, which can lead to feelings of things being unreal, and feeling a disconnection from your current body. Some things that may help with this until the feeling passes is to look for things that help you feel closer to your alterhuman identity and the memories you have in your waking life, and to engage in grounding activities that allow the use of your senses or allow physical activity in some way as this can help you feel more involved and present in your daily life.

Parasomnias are another risk in regards to long term kin dreams. Experiencing kin memories in the form of dreams can feel incredibly real as if you are not dreaming, which could lead to talking, acting out actions, even getting out of bed and walking in your sleep, which can be incredibly alarming. This may be more common in people who have previous experience with sleepwalking, etc. In cases such as this it is most important above all else to ensure all windows and doors leading to outside are locked and are unable to be opened while in a sleeping state.

Of course, don’t take my word as gospel, this is merely based on my own experiences as well as the experiences of others’ who have contacted me with their stories. If anyone would like to add on to this post with their own experiences or input, I am turning this one to you.
