Crashing Americans Expectations of Hostels
Almost nightly at Hostel Fish’s bar- The Exchange Rate- I have people tell me incredulously that they had no idea there were even hostels in the United States; that they’d always thought it was simply a European thing. They also take a look around the bar and lounge areas, go out to the balcony, maybe pass through the restrooms, and when they return say something along the lines of “this place is really beautiful. Such a nice space!” before inquiring more about the hostel; i.e. what it’s like sleeping in a room with other people, how much bunks costs, are we continuously full, etc. After the exclamations, it’s not uncommon for a seasoned traveler at the bar to enthusiastically back them up by saying “yeah, Hostel Fish is definitely one of the nicest hostels I’ve ever stayed at. It’s great.” Hostels are a blossoming industry in the United States, and Hostel Fish, in particular, strives to be at the forefront of reinventing Americans notions about hostels. We push always to offer a clean, attractive space at a reasonable rate, where everyone feels comfortable to socialize and rest before continuing on with their respective adventures. Welcome to Hostel Fish! We hope you enjoy your stay!
Seize the Carpe!
“Life is a short, warm moment And death is a long cold rest. You get your chance to try in the twinkling of an eye: Eighty years, with luck, or even less.”
--Free Four, Pink Floyd
And so set sail for the American tour!
Travel far, travel wide, and often in between. Live out of a backpack, throw your thumb out over the asphalt, feel the wind in your hair; go see the ocean just to feel the ocean, break trail and camp up high under crazy stars...because why not? You really only have one chance to.
Here at Hostel Fish, we love to travel. We love the adventure of waiting in line at the gate at the airport, hoping they don’t actually check the dimensions of our “personal item” backpack; we dig grabbing the window seat, because the aerial perspective is just too cool; we thrill with the deep breath just before the plane wheels touch down on the runway; we jump at taking public transportation, especially when everything is in a different language because it feels more personal; and we love checking into a travelers hostel in a new place, not knowing exactly what to expect, or who we’ll meet, or what adventure will unfold. It’s what gets the blood flowing, it’s what keeps us happy to strive through the “musts” of daily living. Our love of travel is why we also love to host like-minded adventurers. We know what it’s like to lug the pack around for miles and miles, and want to roll it off the shoulders at the end of the day and grab a local beer. Therefore, we strive to offer an affordable, comfortable hostel with outstanding amenities to create an unforgettable base-camp experience. “Come sleep with us!”
Ask any staff member at the front desk, or bar, for advice on where to venture around the city! We have a rad “Broke College Kids Guide” that will offer some great opportunities to save money, but still keep the party going! Another way to have a BIG night is to join our Pub Crawl, held weekly on Thursday nights from 8pm to...whenever! As part of our Pub Crawl, you will enjoy a complimentary drink at our bar- The Exchange Rate- as well as some other stellar deals we’ve cultivated at different bars around the neighborhood. There’s no shortage of opportunity to have a blast, here at Hostel Fish!
