House of the Dragon: Season 1 Timeline (112—132AC)

— 81 AC*: Birth of Daemon Targaryen, (16 years older than Rhaenyra) — 97 AC*: Birth of Rhaenyra Targaryen*, Alicent Hightower and Laenor Velaryon — 110 AC: Birth of Laena Velaryon — 101 AC*: The Great Council takes place at Harrenhal. Rhaenyra is four years old, so Aemma is pregnant with one of her siblings.

— 103 AC*: Death of King Jaeherys, and start of King Viserys' reign.

— 112 AC: "The Heirs of the Dragon" is set in 112AC according to HBO. This keeps Jaeherys' death (103 AC) and Daenerys' birth (284 AC) same as book canon. Alicent and Rhaenyra are both 14, according to the script & their actresses.

— 112 AC: "The Rogue Prince" takes place roughly 6 months later, and Rhaenyra has turned 15, keeping her birth year as 97AC. Laena is 12 years old, making her birth year 100 AC. Daemon is 31, according to Emma D'Arcy.

— 113 AC: Birth of Aegon II Targaryen (9 months of pregnancy = 113AC). Alicent and Rhaenyra are 15 (nearly 16) years old when she gives birth.

— 115 AC: "Second Of His Name" takes place 3 years later. It is Aegon's 2nd name-day. The war in the Stepstones has lasted three years and Alicent is in the last months of her pregnancy with Helaena. Rhaenyra is 17, nearly 18 years old.

— 115 AC: Birth of Helaena Targaryen — 115 AC: Laena claims Vhagar

— 115-116 AC (1st option): Birth of Aemond Targaryen. As Alicent is not visibly pregnant in the next two episodes, Aemond could have been born during this skip, making him and Helaena less than 12 months apart.

— 116 AC: "King of the Narrow Sea" takes place a year later, as Aegon is said to be 3 years old, making Haelena making 1 year old. Rhaenyra is 18, nearly 19 years old and Daemon is 35.

— 116 AC: "We Light The Way" takes place a day or days after the previous episode. Laena is 16 years old.

— 116-117 AC: Birth of Jaecerys Velaryon & Baela Targaryen. Unlike F&B where they are twins, according to HBO Baela is Rhaena's older sister. — 116-117 AC (2nd option): Alternative year for the birth of Aemond Targaryen, however this would make him only 15/16 by the season's finale — 118 AC: Birth of Lucerys Velaryon & Rhaena Targaryen.

— 126 AC: "The Princess and the Queen" takes place 10 years after the previous episode. Ages are as follows: Daemon (45), Rhaenyra/Alicent (28/29), Laena (26), Aegon (13), Helaena (11), Aemond (10-11), Jaecerys/Baela (9-10), Lucerys/Rhaena (8), with Joffrey having just been born.

— 126 AC: "Driftmark", takes place only days later. Helaena and Aegon are betrothed between this and the previous episode.

— 126-132 AC: Birth of Aegon III & Viserys II. Also birth of Jaehaera & Jaehaerys (either 126AC if immediate, or 128AC if Helaena is 13 years old as in F&B). — 132 AC: "Lord of the Tides" takes place 6 years later. It It's been nearly 20 years since the pilot (112 AC). The ages are as follows: Daemon (51), Rhaenyra/Alicent (34/35), Aegon II (19), Helaena (17), Aemond (16-17), Jacaerys/Baela (15-16), Lucerys/Rhaena (14), Joffrey (6).

— 132 AC: "The Green Council" takes place the morning after Viserys' death.

— 132 AC: "The Black Queen" takes place a day after the previous episode. Rhaenyra remarks Lucerys is fourteen years old, making his birth year 118AC, same as Rhaena.

Being an annoying math-nerd about HOTD ages again

I'm ripping my hair out about the character ages thrown around in various takes. Nevermind that nobody can keep to either book or show canon (I`m talking show here).

EP 1: Rhaenyra and (supposedly) Alicent are 14 years old.

EP 2: Both girls have turned 15 in the last sixth month. Well, maybe not Alicent actually, if Ryan keeps insisting that she was still 15 when she gave birth to Aegon and a pregnancy lasts 9 month. Which makes the handwringing about Laena's age even more hilarious and Alicent officially younger than Rhaenyra in show canon, which is funny as all seven hells.

EP 3: Here the first real continuity error occurs as Rhaenyra is claimed to be 17 on Aegon's second birthday, which is barely not possible. I guess to save this we have to pretend she turned 18 the next week (No, really she's should be 18 here).

EP 4: Aegon is now said to be 3 so more than another year has passed and baby Helaena doesn't look a day over eight month to me, i.e. that's the next error, she should be over a year old as she was about to drop the last time we saw Alicent. Our girls should be 19 now.

EP 5: Not much time has passed, probably only a few weeks. Prep for the wedding etc.

Ep 6/Ep 7: Laenor says something about 10 years and people take it as gospel. Problem: Aemond is supposed to be 11 or 12. That fits with the claims of TPTB that he is about 18 in the later eps, but not with the ten year statement, because he could not have been more than an embryo then. 🤷‍♀️

Ep8-10: Corlys has been away for six years. We do not know when exactly he fucked off, so maybe there is some leeway, but our Queens should be around 37 now, if Aemond is 18 Helaena is 19 and Aegon is 21 at minimum.

HOTD: 1x04 - Timeline

What would unfold in episode 4 and in which order in my humble opinion:

- Birth of Haelena Targaryen / Septa and nurse running in the night.

- Rhaenyra in Storm’s end checking out potential suitors. (So odd, she will wear the same dress when she will be on the beach discussing with Laenor in episode 5? / And maybe she will go to Harrenhal?) 

- Rhaenyra in the boat heading down to King’s Lading and spotting Daemon (or verse versa) on his way too after his victory. 

- Daemon presented at court, in front of the King after his victory in the Stepstones, and where he will give his crown to the King.

- Some scenes between Rhaenyra and Daemon (one clearly in the garden next to the weirwood, where he will discuss and touch her/his necklace).

- Viserys showing Rhaenyra the blade, but also screaming at her, because she hasn’t still found someone to marry. 

- Some scenes between Rhaenyra and Daemon (having fun outside of the Red Keep).

- Otto waking up Viserys and Alicent to give them so gossip about what may have unfolded between Rhaenyra and Daemon.

- Alicent and Viserys discussing about the gossip during the same night.

- The next morning, Alicent confronting Rhaenyra about the accusation in the garden next to weirwood.

- Some last scenes between Rhaenyra and Daemon where they will be caught? 

- Otto waiting in the throne room.

- Viserys demanding that Daemon should be brought to him and menacing him with his dagger. 

==> That would be the end and the cliffhanger.

HOTD: doing math in the number range of 1-60

This seems to be very difficult for the audience and showmakers alike and makes my nerd-self go:

So let's talk about the fucked up show timeline/character ages.

For once we will take word of God (Ryan Condal) as basis, who has said that Aegon II is 23 and Aemond is 19 as of episode 1.10.

Yes, this does most definitely contradict lines said on the show (means it has been 25 years since 1.1 not less than twenty), but we'll go with this now, because it actually makes some fucking sense. So from those two given ages we can infer other character ages as follows:

Alicent was 15 when she was married to Viserys and had Aegon with 16 (a pregnancy lasts nine month in Westeros too afawk), so Alicent and Rhaenyra are 38/39 years old. That means Daemon should be 53/54 if he is 15/16 years older than Rhaenyra like in the books (which is debated).

So King Viserys who is at least eight years older than Daemon on the show (in the books it's only four) was around 62 when he died. Otto should be around this age too, maybe a bit younger.

Rhaenys is a bit older than Viserys in the books and I think it's almost same age on the show too. (Corlys is not 78 on the show, more likely also somewhere around 60.)

Crispy Cole was "around 20" at the tourney, says Condal, so should be 45 now (damn he looks good for that). My guess is Mysaria, Larys and the Lannister twins are around that age too.

Helaena is square in the middle of her brothers so 21. Her twins are probably around 5, same age as Rhaenyra's Aegon, (LilVizzy 3?), Joffrey is going on 7. We'll see what they do with the young kids in season 2, as there might be retcons.

Jace and Baela should be 17/18 and Rhaena 15/16 if she isn't Baela's twin on the show. This seems to be left open to interpretation.

Some guesses for season 2:

They seem to have swapped who is older with Alyn and Addam like they already did with Laenor and Laena from the books. Despite the older actor I don't think Alyn will be forty like some people fear, because of his former roles, but around Aegon's II age (would fit with him being made in the first Stepstone's campaign and fighting in the second), so early to mid twenties and Addam late teens.

Hugh is rumored to either be Prince Baelon's or King Viserys' bastard. He will be in his early fourties, so a bit older than Rhaenyra, which makes me think Viserys is more likely. For maximum trolling they should make Ulf (Drunken Ursurper Cunt of a King 2.0) Daemon's bastard.

Nettles is definitely going to be aged up. Probably also early to mid twenties (and if they make her Laenor's 'not-for-lack-of-trying' bastard, then the bastard collection would be complete and I'll laugh my ass off).

HOTD: Time jumps

The time jumps are so random and so inconsistent, just like some of the characterization which make the show such a mess sometimes. 

For example: - They replace some actors during time jumps, but no others and it doesn’t make any sense. Characters somehow go through growth spurts between 23 and 33.  - The king has been sickly and dying for like 20 years. - Why they didn’t show us why Ser Crispin hasn’t been punished at all for beating a noble to death in front of hundreds of people, but Ser Harwin gets punished for doing far less in the next episode. 

I understand that HBO already thought that the show was a dead end, but come on, the show runners do have enough power to push back, and now because of it the show suffers for it. 

The memory is nicely fading.

Episode 1 --> 6 months = Episode 2.

Episode 2 --> 3 years = Episode 3.

Episode 3 --> 1 year = Episode 4.

Episode 4 --> 0-1/2 months = Episode 5.

Episode 5 --> 10 years = Episode 6.

What’s wrong with you HBO to cut it too maximum, what a shame!

I was thinking about writing a HOTD fic and while I haven’t decided whether or not to include OC’s what exactly are the ages of the characters, and do you have any idea which year/years they were born?

The show's timeline is a mess, but someone tried to map it out on Reddit.

This is a good place to start although some of the ages are a bit wonky. Baela and Rhaena aren’t twins(Baela is 15 while Rhaena is 14) and Daemon should be around his book age(saying he’s 55 is a stretch; he’s late 40s at most).

As long as you remember that around 20-21 years have passed between the season premiere and the finale(112AC-132AC according to the Wiki of Westeros) you should be okay.
