Sebastian for the past two chapters:
Languishing
it's just like dying
How does Ciel expect Sebastian to converse with Modri when he made him an unperson. When Ciel pretty much expressed to Sebastian in the past that he doesn’t think Sebastian is capable of such. Not only through his actions (attempting to attack Sebastian at numerous points) and words (like calling him a noxious beast) but also through his thoughts and his feelings which Sebastian is seen to take as orders (shown by Sebastian’s avoidment of Ciel during the start of his age regression knowing Ciel doesn’t want to be touched or even around him). Sebastian said as much in the laboratory at Green Witch after killing the feminine (associated but defying) representation of parenthood present. Since that arc he had taken on the role of a distant father figure, the ever following but silent shadow, a toy that only lives when another’s life is put into him and another’s hands are on him, a cageless bird that doesn’t fly but sings. He’s offers out less comfort and advice, is less intentionally visually emotive, tends to be more single minded when it comes to focus, reverts to hiding information from Ciel, and is shown to embrace harsher methods to get what he wants. Overall taking on traits Ciel tries to have and hold onto but with none of the awareness of the absurdity and futility of it all that Ciel has but suppresses (hence Sebastian’s bafflement at the end of the Circus arc.) But Sebastian isn’t as adaptable and unaffected as he thinks he is. Those two terms often act as antonyms after all. This attempted act of apathy altered more than just his relationship with Ciel but even reached and rotted the likes of his connection with Agni to the point they ended up somewhat distanced from each other pre Agni’s death as Sebastian was caught in posture. Sebastian has such a simplistic, often almost childlike (what’s seen as childlike anyway) way of thinking. If Sebastian is treated like he is bad and a threat then that must be how he is. He’s just acting in accordance; out of what was expected, out of what could’ve even been considered an order suppositionally . Dehumanization for him makes sense; after all he isn’t human and whatever happens to him is a natural consequence of that. He had never been one either according to Yana. (Though what that even means I hope is explored in the story since ‘humans' are not as a firm concept as it’s often treated. There are those who can be divided and divorced from such both in a literal sense such as ‘ bizarre dolls’ and in a metaphorical sense such as the treatment of minorities. Plus humanity is intentionally separated from animal, from environment, and is often seen the same as personhood. It’s endless human exceptionalism along with anthropomorphic bias. Also Otherkins. Alterhumans.) So Sebastian is not even (consciously at least) upset about this treatment. To be clear I am not casting blame on Ciel or trying to start any sort of conversation about whether he’s “ justified” especially when he was LITERALLY age regressed and having constant flashbacks in Green Witch Arc and Sebastian is someone who both intentionally and not has hurt him in numerous ways. There’s no moral lens I’m applying to these events- just trying to find causes, effects, and consequences within this Ouroboros chain link fence. My only related opinion I’ll share is Sebastian’s own breakdown and eventual attack in Green Witch Arc - which I always saw as partially out of pure desperation and distress over potentially losing the life he has built up and being reminded of the lack of power he has in areas of the contract in addition to the difference between him and the humans around him- is intentionally meant to mirror Angelina in the Red Butler Arc. I mean the series name parallels that arc’s name for the stars sake! His and others tendency to both over and under estimate him will be what causes his fall and at this point I’m not sure how he’ll be able to get up. Yeah my current mental image of Sebastian is primarily Denji that’s all you need to know about it and me.
Imagine Aleister shows up at the hotel but he's now bald because of syphilis.
not gonna lie this guy seems so shady but he’s a cutie pie
You honestly have no idea how hyped I am for the hotel arc with sebby and o!ciel I NEED IT NOW I CAN’T WAIT HELPP
Light hearted hotel rivalry arc where both sides are having fun....but something’s not quite right...
If I ever had to explain to someone why I love the dsmp so much i'd probably show them this, my all time favorite dsmp animatic https://youtu.be/cTWLuhxCa9E it's not perfect it's from late march 2021 but I love it still. Something about it just makes me cry every time I watch it because. It feels just like how I think or wish the dsmp was. The way every character on the "it was not your fault but mine, and it was your heart on the line, i really f***ed it up this time, didnt i my dear?" seemed to be blaming themselves and grieving over c!Tommy's death, the way the egg vine grew out but died next to the dandelion, the way every character looks, c!Tommy waking up in the void with c!Wilbur- even the song choice. It doesn't have a happy ending but it feels hopeful. And it covered my favorite period of the dsmp, the hotel arc when everything was sort of like that, hopeful. Idk i'm rambling, little lion man is such a dsmp song
