I am sure landlord Pierre Poilievre will fix Canada's housing crisis! (sarcasm).
“If people choose to leave their homes vacant where the housing crisis is the deepest we are asking them to pay their fair share and all that revenue will be returned to British Columbians in the form of affordable housing,” said James.
B.C.’s finance minister is charging ahead with the NDP government’s speculation tax, while dismissing calls from local mayors for exemptions.
Carole James introduced enabling legislation on the tax Tuesday, though it did not appear to contain any major changes municipal governments had called for.
James said that while she’s heard the concerns of mayors that the tax might deter local development projects, the speculation tax remains a critical part of her government’s plan to improve housing affordability by levelling surcharges on owners of multiple properties who leave them vacant.

🤯 No. fucking. way.
If Erin O'Toole was serious about building 1 million housing units in 3 years, why would he vote against building 500k in 10 years? Liberals and Conservatives vote against housing policy at almost every turn. I don't believe either of them. The big problem is speculation. We have six vacant homes per every homeless Canadian already. In 2016 there were 1.3 Million vacant, not on the market homes and 235,000 homeless Canadians. That's over 5.5 for every unhoused person you see on the street.
Vancouver Liberal candidate flipped at least 21 homes since 2005!
Vancouver-Granville has an easy decision to make. Liberal candidate, Taleeb Noormohamed, who helped create the housing crisis in Vancouver, BC, by being a career house flipper... OR The NDP's Anjali Appadurai who wants to build below-market homes and social housing, and combat speculation. Vote NDP in Vancouver-Granville if you care about the housing crisis!

The ECOreport looks at a partial solution to the housing crises, taxing Vancouver’s empty homes
By Roy L Hales
Vancouver’s real estate values have skyrocketed 280% since 1986, while wages have only increased 7%. A new report shows the affordability crises impacts both renters and homeowners. The average westside home was selling for $1.4 million last May. Though 10,800 housing units have…
