Mental illness is a hot topic right now and the promises being banded around like firing confetti cannons making it look like there's something being done. It's hard to identify whether the 'strategy' would work as it stands. I read in the paper today that psychosis is having some research for autoimmune causes and trials via NSFT Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust. But what I don't understand as someone who has experiences of great treatments and rehabilitation services it is nonsensical as to how that could have helped me in the throws of psychosis. When what is really needed is to engage with people not isolated 'in the community' with nowhere to go than the local pub, off licence, or even just hang around at home, never the less than homelessness and maybe even turn to crime. This government has let down many people and the last Labour government made so many cuts to services in favour of redirecting funds from mental health to non-mental health NHS services. It's the stigma of mental illness as a disability that means lots of people are hostile to people with mental illness and the elimination of mental illness as something to care about. As Luisa Omielan said that there is so much money spent on training our bodies to be strong yet we do not have enough respect for our mental wellbeing.
