it’s the little things

I recently got out of a 4 year relationship with a guy that was controlling then found myself in a relationship with a guy that I can definitely see being the one, even though he currently lives 4 hours away, I don’t say this because of any huge act of kindness that he has done for me. no grand gesture that has swept me off my feet.

no its when it is 2 in the morning and I roll over because at some point in the night I rolled away, and without waking up his arms wrap around me and pull me closer.

its when he gets up first thing in the morning and makes coffee and on the second day knew exactly how I took my coffee and always brings me my cup when he gets his.

its when he comes home from work and the first thing he does is come over and give me a kiss.

it’s when he I drive away not knowing when I’ll be back to see him again and I miss him the second i pull out of his driveway.  

It’s those moments when we have nothing to do put feel totally at ease just doing nothing together.

it’s when something exciting happens at work and as soon as he gets off he can’t wait to tell me.  

its how when I woke up from a dream about a friend i recently lost and I told him about it his first thought was how he wished he could be with me to make it better, and swearing that he would be the next time.

its the way that he helps me finish making dinner even though he just got home from work

its how he accepts me unequivocally for who I am and doesn’t want to change me

its the way that he teases me for my quirks but doesn’t make me feel bad about them.

its how he was able to take me all broken and confused from a past relationship and show me that it never has to be that way again.

you see I don’t need him to show me in any large grand gesture that he cares for me. because I see it in everything he dose with/for me. I see it in the way that he looks at me from across the room. I see it in the way he say’s that’s her when he is introducing me to someone and I just walked into the conversation. I see it in the way he holds my hand like he is never letting go. he shows me all these wonderful ways that he care’s about me that he loves me. I think to often we think love is all about loud expression of commitment. we think that the person that loves us needs to declare it loudly to the world. that they must show us in some grand way that we are the only one for them that we overlook those little things. the way they text us good morning or good night when we aren’t with them. it’s the way that they pull us in for a hug when we are crying and couldn’t give two shits that our mascara is ruining their favorite shirt. see all these little things they add up they show us how loved we are. we have a tendency to want to see the big picture so bad that we forget that we have to put the pieces in the puzzle together first.

so im lying down and my boyfriends sitting next to me and i curl up around him and put my head on his lap.

and he chuckes and stops playing his game, strokes my cheek, holds my hand, kisses it and keeps holding it while he plays.

and he makes sure im all comfy and stuff

and im like pls dont ever let me go. bec no ones ever made me feel like this and hes doing his own thing but making sure im good first, and including me in his *guy time* and telling me random things even tho i can barely keep up, lol.

im so in love rn listening to him just get excited and my heart is so full uhhhh.

While in line to vote today I saw all the McAllen Mayoral candidates come together for a photo. They were United not just for a photo op but for our community. No mud slinging. No negative campaigns. True servant leaders doing the best they can for the community they love. Before I knew it, I and everyone around me began clapping. This is the wonderful part of politics. I missed good politics and felt good to see it unfold before me again. Only one will win but I truly hope each one continues to serve McAllen in all ways they can.
