Elphelt progress update! Swipe to see how I'm handling these armored sleeves! Often times cosplay calls for really weird, carefully thought out construction processes, and the sleeves and armor for Elphy are definitely one of those cases. I love these strange challenges and would like to share with you how I plan to make it work! (2) At the top of the sleeve, the fabric needs to hold a wrinkle from the "weight" of the armor piece. To do this, I am using 2mm. I will heat shape the creases, then apply my pleather to it with spray adhesive to make the fabric look creased without worrying about it moving around. The armor needs a more structured backing to hold it, which is where my heavy interfacing comes in. The interfacing will also keep the trim structured. I may need to add some sculpture wire for more support, but will have to wait til later to determine that. (3) There are red stripes across the upper arm of the sleeve for which I am topstitching the edges, and will have to handsew in place onto the sleeve. One end of each strip wraps around and has a snap closure on the back of the sleeve, so this has to be attached carefully to have that look without being functional and potentially coming undone or becoming an unnecessary fuss while wearing it. (4) And finally, my armor has spikes that have been cast from resin! They will be embedded into the eva, but before that happens, will need to be finished. The finishing process I have planned (they've already been dremeled, dry, and wet sanded) is to use filler primer, paint them metallic, and hand weather them. Once sealed, I will then epoxy them in place. Hopefully this info can be at least a little insightful if you're ever working on a project with these kinds of challenges. Theres a lot going on in the world, and I am grateful to be able to spend this time crafting and working on my passion as a productive escape. There is a lot I need to learn for my next few cosplays. So who better to give me a basic under standing then @kamuicosplay. Her books have shown me so much and helped me understand a lot. Even things I thought I had mastered, she showed me a new easier way to do them. Her books are amazing because reading them makes me feel like she is there showing me how to do it. I don't feel like I'm being talked down to or it has to be done her way or it's wrong. These are quite the amazing how to books that I highly recommend! . . . #kamuicosplay #kamuicosplaybooks #howto #howtocosplay #wipbook #wipbooks #cosplay #cosplayers #cosplayguy #cosplaygirl #atlanta #atlantacosplay #atlantacosplayer #atlantacosplayers #atlantaga #atlantalife #solarwolfcosplay (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2Xizrvhwq9/?igshid=3a4lab1ciy3m

How to measure yourself and concepts.
For making a cosplay...
For making a cosplay...
1. Choose a “good” character. Don’t take it wrong! It’s not like you have to make a cosplay cute and lovely!
“Good character” means: character that you like and that SUITS you!
It can seem strange, but there are characters that may look more like you than others. Of course, you can cosplay any character that you like. ANYONE. Do it! There’s no problem and while you enjoy cosplaying as it, it’s enough!
But the result is going to look better on you if the character has some shared features with you: height, shape of face, built of the body… However, we all know that is impossible to have the same size of anime and manga characters ¬¬ They’re not human after all. Such a shame… But just for showing an exemple:
-A short and thin girl would look better as Rukia and Yachiru, than as Kenpachi. Kenpachi is really strong built… (big like a fucking closet), so it’s more difficult cosplaying as him and really look as him. Thought it’s possible! Look:
Oh yeah. It’s a girl. The two of them. As you can see, Yachiru is probably shorter than the girl cosplaying as Kenpachi. But maybe not, and she’s taking advantage of the photo. Nice idea!
On the other hand, the girl that cosplays Kenpachi seems to be more strong-built than thinner girls. And that often looks better when you try to cosplay as a boy.
Also, the two of them are “in character”, so it helps to the final result.
We can continue with more examples!
-The shape of face also helps, as I said before! So if you have strong features, you can perfectly cosplay as a boy that looks serious. But if you have a more relaxed face, oval, big and expressive eyes, you will look perfectly as a cheerful character.
((Bleach, thanks for your characters, so easy to explain <3))
My sister did a cosplay of Orihime and she was better as Orihime than myself, because she’s… just cuter <3 On the other hand, I have stronger features and I look better as Ichigo.
-The height can be a little more problematic, above all if you make cosplay in group. It’s awesome to find a group whose members are well proportioned in height, but it’s really difficult. If you want to cosplay as a short character, but you’re tall… You just have to take advantage of the situation!
In the individual photos you won’t have a problem! But in the group photos… you just can try to sit down or getting on your knees for a better image.
I could be all the day putting more examples, but it would become too long. I hope it helped you to have a better idea of if you want to do that cosplay or another. I always say that if you want to do a cosplay, DO IT! But if you really want to have a better result, the best you can do is see if that character suits you. ~
