I don’t know if this blog is still active but here’s my little confession.

I am so on the fence with Harry Potter as a franchise.

I use to be such a big fan back in late 2021/early 2022 and it was prime demographic at the time cause I was 14. I watched all the movies, brought all the books, brought figures and all sorts of merchandise and had a crush on Hermione.

I’m now 18 and trans (FTM) and been diagnosed with autism and I’ve also completely dropped it.

The world of Harry Potter is a place for everyone, no matter what race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc. it’s a place where weirdos like me can find a place and call home, either that within the walls of Hogwarts or an original place.

JK has ruined the franchise and it makes me so sad and not just her transphobia but her racism. Not every book or franchise is perfect, especially one that’s been around as long as Harry Potter.

I also don’t really like the off shoot fandom of the Marauders (sorry) BUT REMUS CAN GET IT THO

I’m also Trans (FtM) and being in my 20s I have had this hyperfixation for pretty much my entire life. I can’t let go of the franchise, though I have a lot of criticism towards the writing, the depictions of POC and marginalized groups, and I despise JKR as a person. You’re right, she has ruined it for a lot of people and that is absolutely valid.

Personally I have taken the stance of being a spiteful bitch and putting my grubby little transgender hands all over it because I believe that nothing is a bigger fuck you to a transphobic bigoted terf than not letting them take away your safe space. I will push my trans headcanons, I will keep writing my fanfiction, and she can go eat shit as I reinterpret the entire franchise and its character through an unapologetically queer and inclusive lens. I’m not separating the art from the artist, I’m taking the art that gave me comfort and turning it into what the artist hates most for myself, and there’s nothing she could do to make us disappear. Frankly I know there are so many trans people like me who have found comfort and community in this space.

But maybe that’s just me being particularly rebellious in nature.
