Getting hyped for Hogwarts Legacy
How I Make My Harry Potter Wands!
I know this isn’t about writing, but dang it this was fun! (And that tiktok took so long)
Musings on the Current State of Wand Lore and Creation - 1st ed.
Though I have nothing but respect for the work of Mr. Garrik Ollivander, my current partnered wand being of his work, I cannot hide my moderate disappointment at the current state of wand core experimentation. Ever since the rise of the "superior wand cores", wand core research has all but stagnated. I have chosen to investigate this lacking arena in the hopes that my particular ability to 'hear' the 'thoughts' of a wand will provide more insight into the way a core truly effects a wand.
Sylph Wing - Fae creatures of all breeds are known for their general avoidance of those outside their kin. It is therefore by luck that I was able to study this core at all, as a dear friend of my mother is in possession of a sylph core wand in honor of his half-sylvan blood. Despite what one might immediately assume, sylvan blood is not a prerequisite for achieving success with these wands, though it certainly simplifies the process. In reality, one need only receive the wing to be used for the core in an honest form to also receive all the benefits therein. To retrieve the wing through dishonest means, i.e. to kill a sylph to harvest the wings, renders the magic dead on arrival. But for those who are bestowed a wing by donation from a sylph, they will find themselves in possession of a core that will be loyal exclusively to them with a particular skill for nature and weather magiks.
Golden Snidget Feather - I cannot blame "the superior cores" for the lack of information available on this particular core type, but rather the extremely poor treatment of Golden Snidgets in the past. Blissfully, conservation efforts of the last 37 odd years have replenished the population quite remarkably. That said, a proper wand core grade snidget feather is foraged or pruned NEVER taken. Violent treatment of an extremely delicate magical conductor is a one way ticket to a dead core and a hefty fine for a dead snidget. Due to the minute size of snidget feathers, I recommend combining this with a pheonix feather or unicorn hair core to create a wand unmatched in the Alchemic and Transfigurative arts. I have also noted that wands containing this core will produce a musical-like clicking sound when pointed in the direction of a rare earth mineral deposit.
Occamy Flight Feather - After experimenting with both Occamy Tail Scale and Occamy Flight Feather, I have determined the feather to be the more consistent of the two (my sincerest thanks to the Magical Creature Preservation Association of India for providing both conduits for me following the Occamy's molting cycle). The hollow nature of the feather's spine gave it an edge in magical conduction when compared to the dense tail scale. Either way, a wielder of an Occamy core wand most certainly will be a defender; protecting their loved ones with powerful defensive magics much akin to the creature itself. The defensive nature of these cores, however, can also make them quite prone to the stray curse if their bonded wizard allows their emotions to cloud their cloud their judgement in the heat of the moment.
The lack of literature available on woods non-native to the British Isles has not alluded my attention. It is for this reason that I have taken it upon myself to venture out into the world and peruse the possibilities outside my home nation and how they might advance wand lore the world over.
Rainbow Eucalyptus - A native of Southeast Asia, this fascinating magical flora was not only initially discovered by muggles, but has been adopted by non-magic folk as a 'naturally occuring' and 'scientifically regular' tree despite its innate magical properties which potion makers of the area have utilized for decades. Following my research, I have decided that Rainbow Eucalyptus most often choose wizards who's personalities "shine" so to speak. Performers, athletes, and others with a flair for the dramatic who enjoy bringing smiles to other's faces will be a preferred partner for a Rainbow Eucalyptus wand.
Baobab - Native to Africa, Australia, and Madagascar; locals sometimes call these massive wonders "upside-down trees". Appropriately, I have found that a Baobab Wand's preferred partner is dedicated to "breaking the mold" in some way. They excel in experimental magic, and if you are happen to meet a wielder of a Baobab wand rest assured you will hear their name again in the future as the inventor of a fascinating new spell or the innovator of a powerful new dueling technique.

I sometime wish for a magic wand when it comes to studying. Just a little something to make my handwriting clean, neat and fast. 5/100

Never posted the wand I designed... Probably because I was boycotting tumblr at the time... Drawn on paper and then digitally enhanced, and on paper it was draw to scale. (The second one is a HEX edit I made.)
It’s always 13 inches and ebony, but the core changes based on what I can get away with/feel like. Sometimes it’s thesteral hair, or fairy wings, but most often it’s some kind of dragon part. (Heartstring, bone, scales, tooth, claws, etc...)
