Come on, Odin. Another one?!
Found this description for a Norse goddess I did not know in the Neues museum in Berlin, and I had to share with y'all ^^'
Hretha
The sequence of murals begins with this heavily damaged picture. The goddess Hretha is depicted strewing flowers and is introduced as the goddess of fertility. HER JUXTAPOSITION WITH ODIN IDENTIFIES HER AS HIS WIFE. She stands on a vehicle remiscent of a Roman chariot which is drawn by two cows, one black and one white.
... Another joins the list of Odin's lovers/wives XD
Though Hretha reminds me of Gefjon in this description ^^'
EDIT
After a little research, it turns out that "Hretha" is Rheda... and damn. That woman has a little too many common points with Sigyn to my liking ^^' Her name means "Victory" (or famous), it seems she was a warrior AND ASSOCIATED WITH SPRING.
On my reconstructed Anglo-Saxon Calendar, today is the beginning of Hreþmonaþ (the þ letter is called thorn, and pronounced as ‘th’ in thin)
OR were Sigyn and Hretha the same person, but then Snorri and the monks happened, and they separated her into two, making one Loki's poor victim of a wife, and giving the other to Odin (and letting her keep all her glory ^^')...
DAMN.
I need to know :/
