"Dark Chocolate" - a free verse quatrain written 1/13/2014

I appear to be sweet People can love me But that doesn’t make me any less Bitter

I'm sharing this not because it's good, but actually because I think it's... worse than amateurish. Embarrassing. I define the word "bittersweet" as a fourteen-year-old high school freshman and I think I've really done something. I don’t flatter myself as something of a great poet now, but even at my most self-critical I know I’m better than this.

All poets must start somewhere. I have people tell me a lot "oh, I just can't write" like writing is some kind of innate personality trait. It isn't. It's a skill you develop, and when you begin you're no more ready to write a good poem than a newborn baby is to ride a bicycle. You work up to it. And if you've got anything more than what I had going on in my head in sixth period before the bell rang in January of 2014, you're already at a better start than I was.

So... I start high school on September 2nd-3rd (I don’t remember exactly). I’m fucking terrified. I’m not scared it’ll be different from middle school, I’m scared it’ll be the same. I don’t know what I’m gonna do, I’ve grown apart from basically my only non-online friend over summer vacation, and I’m not sure if I even have any classes with him. I’m not out irl as genderqueer/nonbinary so I also have to deal with 3-4 years of “she” and “her”. Plus I’m still trying to figure out what I even want my name to be, so the whole year I’ll have to live with my deadname and all that yummy social disphoria, although I’m lucky enough not to feel physical dysphoria just the usual teenage body hate. Ideally I’d drop out or graduate early but I’m not sure if that’s an option for me. At least I’m starting my driver’s ed lessons soon so I can get my drivers license and blow this popsicle stand as soon as I’m legal... anyhow, sorry for the rant... if u want to give advice that’d be super appreciated but if not I just wanted to get this out there. ❤️

Wow I am so sorry for never being active lol

Today, I am deciding to change my mindset and posting to this tumblr is one of my ways to stay on track.

My scheduling for my sophomore year of high school is due tomorrow, and here are the courses I selected:

- 10 Honors English Lit/Comp

- Japanese 3

- Symphonic Band (still seeing if I pass the audition)

- Geometry (trying to either test into Algebra 2 or Honors Geometry)

- APUSH (AP US History)

- GBBE (genetics, bacteriology, biotechnology, and embryology)

I really wanted to take AP seminar to do the AP capstone diploma but unfortunately I do not have the schedule space.

Currently studying for a quiz in Japanese 2, a quiz in Biology, a quiz in Algebra 1 (easiest class though so I'm not worried), and a grammar test in 9 Honors English

Classes I am studying to test out of:

- Geometry

- Chemistry 1

- Economics

- Gov and Civics

- World History 2

AP classes I am self-studying with a friend:

- AP Environmental Science

- AP Psychology (doing this one by myself lol)

- AP Gov and Civics

Classes I want to take in the future:

- AP Art

- Anatomy

- AP Seminar

- AP Research !!

- Sociology

- AP Calc B/C

- AP Stats

- AP Japanese

- AP Biology

- AP Chemistry

Well, that's it. Time for me to study!

FIRST DAY OF HIGHSCHOOL

-Art - My first period went by so smoothly, the teacher is great and so funny omg. We drew hands, and i finally did it ? Haha -Academic Science - HSJSBSIWBEOEBWJ I had a small panic attack at second period, because I was 1) barely on time, and 2) all by myself (i didnt know anyone in the class and its 28 other people). - Lunch - - Religion - I can already tell that I hate it lol - Geography - I LOVE IT SO FAR I can already tell that my teacher is a boss and I love her haha and we went over what we are going to do, ans Im really excited for it 😊

hello!! this is very late but i’ll link you to some masterposts and give u some of my advice! some mps are not necessarily for hs students but i find them v useful!! 米＾－＾米

some of my own tips

CREATE A STUDY SCHEDULE!! oh my i dont know if i know any masterposts about this but i’ll surely add it but what i know!! one day on a normal school day okay, you jot down everything u need to do and through this u can see your open time slots like u can replace the time you “spent on watching tv” with studying!! its way better lIKE That i created one but i have to work on it! i saw this elsewhere so if it sounds similar and u know the masterpost pls message me so i can credit them huhu sorry ╰(°ㅂ°)╯

if u can, bring ur own food and BRING water!! so u can still work while you’re eating and not starve (i did this a lot last yr ugh ;_;)

also drink vitamins!! (i am rn hihi) and also take a shower once u come home fr school so ur energized since yEAH they force us to stay in school for 10 hrs in school nice!!╰(・∇・╰)

a study buddy/group is really helpful but make sure who you’re studying with is super nice, patient & friendly!!

KEEP A PLANNER/ JOURNAL AND PUT ALL DEADLINES!! Oh my even though im still working with my bullet journal ;_; i still have some late hw i have to pass (waH im rly bad with time management super) put deadlines on one page or highlight them!! i made a page with all my project infos!! the right part of this page! so its easier to keep track of ur projects and stuff! 

DO UR HOMEWORK AS SOON AS U GET IT!!! JUST DO IT…(NIKE) tbh….i need to do this huhu….since we’re on the topic of deadlines… HUHU （⌒▽⌒ゞ

always..bring your books i have not used my locker for 2 yrs now (hence the bringing of two bags) sometimes if u find yourself bored or if u just wanna be productive and…uh oh i left my books ;_; but do make sure you’re comfortable with bringing it around!! if u know u dont need it u can leave it in ur locker :-)

one last thing: abt group projects please please initiate action like even if you’re not the leader try to work on it asap!!
