- Hello! How are you?
- Everything's good, and you?
- Very good, thank you!
- I'm glad.
[Based this off a convo I had with my Spanish speaking pookie :3]
Semana uno - sábado
¡Hola!
~~ Writing a rough draft of something in your target language, and just writing in any English/Native language words you don't know to look up later is amazing. Decided to do a weekly update rather than daily :) Might increase it to monthly depending on the topic! (Also, I noticed my writing is very repetitive when using "Quiero ...", nothing that I need to look into other ways to express me wanting to do something. need to expand my future tense knowledge ˚ ✦ . . ˚ . . ✦ ˚ . ★⋆.
Week One Overview ~
How Can I Improve?
Speaking:
So far, I haven't had the oppurtunity to speak to any of my Spanish speaking friends yet, sadly. I might record voice notes for them to correct, however I do want to practice speaking off the top of my head.
Listening:
DEFINITELY want to target this more this upcoming week. I have been exploring vlogs and beginner listening comprehension videos. Definitely recommend! But I am thinking of finding a show that I've rewatched countless times / a childrens' show to binge. (Might be a good excuse to rewatch ATLA again though! (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵)) I am on the look out for relatively beginner friendly shows that are based in a contemporary setting though, so please lmk any recs you may have! Reading:
Very pleasantly surprised by this one! I have been loving finding websites with short stories, seeing my progression as I need to take fewer and fewer notes is so satisfying! Writing:
I do want to work on being at the point where I can just turn my brain off and write off the top of my head, however I understand that'll take a loooooong time from now! Still very happy with what I was able to whip up, mistakes and all :)
Resources:
Journaly - https://journaly.com/
LangCorrect - https://langcorrect.com/
Upload written passages to either of the above websites to be corrected by native speakers! Can also read through public posts and their corrections
FluentWithStories - https://www.fluentwithstories.com/stories/es
ABSOLUTELY INSANE free resource. Short stories that you can sort by fluency level, audio to pair with each story. Scroll down for a vocab list for each story + comprehension quiz. Also has flashcards for each story!!!!! Also can get a free PDF of more short stories, I've gotten it but still going through the content the website provides.
The Spanish Experiment - https://www.thespanishexperiment.com/stories
More short stories, they have lessons too but I personally haven't checked them out yet!
Andrea La Mexicana - https://www.youtube.com/@andrealamexicana
Vlogs and videos meant to aid comprehensible input. She speaks clearly, slowly, and often repeats herself. Also uses a lot of hand gestures and visual aid for you to understand.
Espanol Con Ali - https://www.youtube.com/@espanolconali
Another incredible source for listening comprehension. Speaks very slowly, clear sounding and also a genuinely pleasant voice to listen to IMO
Obviously I have a lot more resources that I'm going through, I'm still trying to find some good study guides/courses that are free. I have found a few that I just use as a reference point, and will watch a few YT videos and read articles myself. I often need it to be explained several times before it clicks.
Also, I definitely want to purchase Cristina Lopez's books. Please lmk if you've read them and your thoughts! They look like a great reading resource :)

Good luck with your learning everyone! Please share any resources that you may have (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) ‹𝟹

Since I'm already living in a black hole of fanfiction, I might as well practise Spanish along the way.
Quick question: Does anybody have any recommendations for 9-1-1 fanfiction in Spanish? Translations of existing work would be fine, as well.
I shall repay recommendations with compliments and drabbles because gods of fandom require sacrifice ;)
does anyone have good podcasts/shows in spanish? im trying to become fluent n need the listening practice
