order 035, anon: large honey milk tea with regular tapioca pearls for pentagon's Hui
warnings: lots of dialogue and very nostalgia/flashback oriented, otherwise just fluff :")
summary: you and boyfriend!Hui reminisce on your past and Hui realizes you've loved him for longer than he's been aware of.
word count: 939
barista 🥛's 💌: did u know this is my fav photo of Hui?! well now u know ♡ is anyone excited for ptg's comeback ?! i can't wait >.< p.s. i struggled writing this lmao
Hui kicks at your leg, making you lose your balance as you sit on the floor with your back towards the couch and your hands holding a gaming console.
"darn, Hui! i'm losing because of you!" you whine.
"that was the point," Hui says, a mischievous expression on his face as his character makes it to the mariokart finish line.
"always choose princess peach for the win, what did i tell you?" Hui says, contently shuffling around in his spot.
"you won 'cause you cheated and pushed me," you huff, taking the gaming consoles and putting them away before switching the tv off.
"a win's a win either way. now, you owe me some pancakes!" Hui cheers.
"coming right up," you grumble, standing up, but Hui pulls you down again to kiss the top of your forehead before letting you go.
as you're preparing the pancake mix, Hui joins you in the kitchen and leans back against the counter.
"this reminds me of our first date," he says, smiling at you fondly.
on your first date, Hui invited you over to cook together, except neither of you were confident, so you ended up just making pancakes. it all took place in your kitchen, just like things are happening now. back then though, the two of you were more nervous and didn't know each other that well.
"i dipped my finger in the mix and touched your face, but the mix slid down and it looked like you were crying," Hui reminisces, slowly walking over and doing the same thing he did back then.
you pout and act as if you're truly crying, and Hui kisses your lips with a laugh, wiping the pancake mix off your face.
"back then, i realized i really loved you," Hui says, stroking the top of your head.
"really? i knew that from way before. that i love you, i mean," you say, stirring the pancake mixture.
"oh? and when was that?" Hui asks, wrapping his arms around you and engulfing you in a back hug.
"back when we were still friends way back at the start, in high school, even. there was this one time when you sang for the class for your music club presentation... seeing the passion on your face and hearing your voice gave me goosebumps. i fell in love with you a thousand times over in that moment," you explain.
"wait so.. when did you first start liking me, then?" Hui asks, mumbling into your neck as he nuzzles his face into it.
"ah... that's a secret!" you say, starting to feel a bit embarrassed.
"what?! but i already know now it was sometime in high school!" Hui whines.
"and that's all you'll know," you say.
Hui's whines grow louder and he softly tickles you, trying to get any sort of answer from you.
"i'll only stop if you tell me!"
"fine, fine!" you pant, catching your breath as Hui finally lets go.
"i saw you in an empty classroom once before we were even friends. you were practicing singing for something and i couldn't even see your face, just your back. your voice was so beautiful that it made my heart flutter. after that day, i couldn't get your voice out of my head. that's how i knew i liked you."
Hui looks at you in disbelief, shaking his head.
"so you liked me before we were even friends?"
you nod and sigh, pitying yourself and your feelings that were one-sided back then.
"wow.." Hui says.
he's silent for a while as he processes everything. then, he asks you how you were able to feel the same way for so many years and not lose interest.
"because you were and are that special to me," you say.
"would you believe me if i told you you're special to me, too?" Hui asks.
you shake your head, not in disbelief, but at Hui's playful tone of voice.
"i started liking you after you befriended me because you joined my club. back then, you couldn't read music yet, and i taught you how to read it, remember? there was a day when you finally got the hang of it and you came to me all excited, showing me that you could finally read music. my heart raced so hard when you gave me a high-five and ran up to me like that... that's when i realized," Hui explains.
you smile fondly at the memory, recalling the way Hui blushed at you when you thanked him for letting you join his music club and teaching you how to read music.
"back then, i was so unsure of myself, but when i was finally doing something right, i felt so proud. and you were the first person who i wanted to tell," you say.
Hui kisses your cheek and rubs your shoulders, holding you close for a moment as he speaks.
"i remember that. and i know you have times, now, when you're still unsure of yourself. you know that it's okay to be unsure, right? you don't have to know everything, and you don't have to know yourself. just give yourself time to live and experience everything, all the things you want. then, you'll learn more about yourself, bit by bit."
"when did this turn into a lecture?" you ask Hui, who laughs in response.
you call his words a lecture, but they really do touch your heart. Hui knows they do, too. he knows now that he'll only tell you pretty things like that. it's the least he can do for someone who has loved him for such a long time.
whether you’re a morning person or not, you’d enjoy waking up to hui’s beautiful voice. it’d be such a sweet and soothing moment for both you. the sleepy smile on your face would make his a little brighter, if possible
the two of you would go about your morning routines and then you’d meet int the kitchen to start breakfast. there’d be conversation about the change in weather and how hui would be really excited about yanan’s birthday dinner
i think hui would really like going to a pumpkin patch and making the decor in your home a little fall-centric. he’d also be all for trying pumpkin spice lattes but it wouldn’t be super great to both of you which would be okay
so we all know that hui is one of the fake maknaes of ptg so expect him to get so excited about the first rain of the season. he’d probably get you to go out and play in the rain with him but only after you’d be properly prepared
watching scary movies together but hui would probably just laugh at everything lol while you’d be preparing for any jump scares which would probably make him laugh more but he’d make up for it with kisses and cuddles
sleeping in whenever you’d both get a chance and spending the day to just relax. there’d be both of your favorite foods and movies and hui would always hold your hand in his and you’d catch him staring at you with a look of pure adoration and his smile would brighten your day even more
getting super excited when hongseok would come over with baked goods and whenever all of ptg would come over because it’d always be fun (and a little chaotic) to have them around but it’d be okay lol
late night or early morning drives with your favorite warm drinks. a fall playlist that kino made would be playing in the background while the scenery would pass you by and the moment would be pretty perfect
breaking out into loud laughter when hui would dance around your shared room with his spooky-themed pajamas and then you’d do the same when he gave you a matching pair. then it’d be hui’s turn to laugh like a little kid when you’d repeat his actions
joining hongseok for morning walks and rushing back home to get coffee or tea. also, knocking out on the couch after a hot shower and if hui would have to head to work he’d place the softest of kisses on your forehead and would whisper how much he loves you. if not, he’d fall asleep with you
hosting game nights with the rest of ptg and trying fall-themed foods together. your stomach would probably hurt by the end of the night from all of the laughing you at the other ptg members
fall with hui would be so nice that it would warm you up inside out. every moment would be special in their own way. just being able to have those moments with each other would mean so much to both of you
A/n: thank you lovely anon for my first pentagon request! I hope you enjoy it!
To say you were nervous about tonight would be an understatement. Tonight will be the first time your father is meeting your boyfriend, Hui. A friend of yours had been insisting on setting you up on a blind date with their friend, and eventually you got tired of their persistence, and agreed, thinking that if you said yes, they’d finally leave you alone. Honestly, you weren’t expecting much from the date, but now you could say that you were glad that you told them yes because six months later you were now with the very same man that you had been set up with.
While at a stoplight, you take a peek at Hui in the driver seat. He’s anxiously shaking his leg; you can tell that he’s nervous as well. As a way to make him relax, you gently take his hand and give it a firm squeeze. Hui physically relaxes as soon his he feels your touch. He brings your hand to his lips and lays a soft kiss on the back of your hand.
“Nervous?”
“Something like that.”
“Don’t be. I’m sure that they’ll love you.” The look he gives you before he begins to drive off lets you know that he doesn’t quite believe your words.
When the two of you arrive at your house, it takes a moment for the two of you to actually leave the car. You patiently wait as Hui collects himself. Taking a deep breathe, he eventually says, “Okay, let’s go.”
As the two of you wait for your parents to open the door, Hui begins to fiddle with the bouquet of flowers that he’s brought for your mother. When the door opens, you are happily greeted by your mom.
“Y/n! It’s been too long! Have you been eating?” Your mom takes a hold of your face to inspect you. “Mom,” you groan out, “Please let go of my face.” Letting go of you, she finally turns to Hui, “Oh my, I didn’t expect you to bring such a handsome man home. Please come on in!” Stepping into your house, Hui presents the flowers to your mom, “These are for you.” Your mom happily takes the flowers from him, exclaiming that he was such a gentleman.
“Is that Y/n I hear?” The sound of your father’s voice comes from the kitchen. Emerging into the living room, your father quickly goes in for a hug, giving you a tight squeeze. When he let’s go of you, he turns to Hui, and his expression immediately changes into a serious one. Reaching out for a handshake, your father warily takes Hui’s hand. You can tell that your dad was being a bit too firm with the way Hui’s hand trembles.
“It’s nice to meet you sir.”
“Uh-huh.” Glaring at your dad, you elbow him in the side. The room has now gone silent, with only the sounds of your mom in the kitchen being the only noise in the house. You try to think of something to say, but fortunately your mom has good timing because she yells out, “Dinners ready!”
When the four of you are situated at the dinner table, you all begin to dig in. For the most of it, your mother does all the talking, all while your dad glares at Hui. Underneath the table, you rest a hand on Hui’s lap as a way to make him relax, which only helps a bit because you can still feel the way that he’s tense.
“So Hui, Y/n tells us that you’re a producer, how’d you get into that?” Your mom’s question manages to get Hui relaxed. When it came to producing, Hui could easily talk about it for hours, so thankfully your mother brought it up.
“As a child I was always interested in music, so it was an easy choice for me to decide to go into a music career. As for being a producer, I’ve just always like creating my own music, even if I’m not the one performing them.”
“That’s wonderful that you chose to do something you love.” Before anyone else could get another word in, your father speaks up, “I don’t know if this was mentioned, but how old are you Hui?” You knew you were forgetting to tell Hui something, and your father’s question just reminded you of it. You haven’t actually told your parents that Hui was four years older than you. It’s not like it was a big deal or anything, which is why you didn’t mention it, but you knew that your dad didn’t like the idea of you dating older guys because the last time you dated an older guy, he completely broke your heart.
“I’m 27 sir.” The sound of silverware clattering follows Hui’s response.
“27?” Your father is now looking at you, and you do your best to avoid his gaze. Unintentionally, you tightly squeeze Hui’s thigh, causing for him to look at you as well. The sound of a chair scraping against the floor catches your attention, and you see your father getting up from his seat, “I’m sorry Hui, but I think you need to leave.”
“Dad.”
“No, Y/n. I cannot have you dating a 27-year-old.”
“Dad,” you plead.
“Sir-“
“Sweetie-“
“No,” your dad says, cutting off everyone, “I will not accept you dating a guy with a four-year age gap.”
“But dad-“
“I said I won’t allow it, Y/n.” You found it ridiculous how your father wouldn’t let anyone get a word in. While off to the side Hui was completely speechless.
“Dad, you’re being completely unreasonable right now.”
“No, I’m not Y/n. Last time you were with an older guy, he broke your heart and me and your mother had to pick up the pieces. I refuse to see my child go through something like that again.” At this point, you were beginning to grow frustrated with your father. Hui was a completely different guy from your ex, and your father would know that if he only got to know him.
Finally speaking up, Hui speaks to your father, “Sir, I know that Y/n’s last relationship put them in a rough spot, but I promise you, I would never intentionally hurt Y/n like that. I truly love Y/n and hurting them is the last thing I want to do.”
“It’s the last thing I want you to do, which is why I cannot allow for you to date Y/n. I’m sorry, but I’d like for you to leave now.” With that being said, you dad takes his leave, leaving the rest of you stunned. Getting up from his seat, Hui apologizes to your mother, “I’m sorry, I seemed to have ruined dinner.”
“Oh no sweetie, it’s not your fault at all. He’s- He’s just very protective of Y/n, that’s all. I think he just needs some time to digest everything.”
“I should take my leave now I guess.” Hui begins to make his way to the door. Getting up from your chair, you stop him in his tracks, “Hui, wait-“
“No, Y/n, I should just go.”
“Please don’t.” Slowly approaching you, Hui plants a gently kiss on your forehead, “I’ll talk to you later, okay?” He then parts from you, bidding you and your mother a goodbye.
Angry and frustrated, you make your way to your dad. Storming into your father’s office, you ask him, “What was that about?” You could not believe that your father had the audacity to do that to you and Hui.
“I did what I had to do Y/n. I did what was best for you.”
“Best for me? Hui is the best thing that’s happened to me, and now because of you, I might’ve lost him for good.”
“There’s other fish in the sea.” You could do nothing but gawk at your father, “I don’t want just any fish in the sea, I only want Hui.” As the minutes pass, your anger towards your father began to build up. “If you can’t accept the fact that there’s a age gap between me and Hui then I don’t think I should come back home.” Your statement causes for your father to finally turn around and look at you.
“You don’t mean that. Y/n, he’s just another guy.” That’s where your father was wrong. To you, Hui wasn’t just any other guy. You saw Hui in your future, and you weren’t going to let something stupid like an age gap ruin that for you.
“I’m sorry dad, if you can’t accept our relationship, then I can’t come back here.” With that being said, you leave your dad’s office, giving your mother an apologetic look as you leave, to which she sends you an understanding look.
That very night, you call Hui and let him know that you chose to be with him, not caring what your father thought of your relationship. At first Hui had made sure to ask you if you were making the right decision, not wanting to be the reason for there to be a rift between you and your father. You had reassured him that you were 100% with your decision.
It had taken you two weeks for you to talk to your father again. Your mother kept you updated on him, telling you that she was doing her best to change his mind, but unfortunately, she had no luck. Which is why it came as a shock to you when your father had unexpectedly showed up at your door. Silently, you let your father in. When you had shut the door, the first things to come out of your father’s mouth was, “I’m sorry.” Unable to do anything but look at him, you wait for him to say more.
“I know that what happened two weeks ago was out of character for me, but you have to understand, you’re my child and all I want to do is protect you from all the evils in the world.” You knew your father had the best intentions for you, but it didn’t excuse the fact that he was rude to both you and Hui.
“Dad, I understand that, but I’m not a child anymore, I’m a grown adult. I can take care of myself now.”
“I know, but I’m your father. I’m always going to want to protect you.”
“And that’s fine, but you can’t control the people that I date. I love Hui, the difference in our ages doesn’t matter to me. He likes me for me, and I like him for him.”
“I understand that now. Your mother told me the things you told her, and I want to make it up to you and Hui and really get to know him.” Suddenly the door to your apartment swings open, Hui busting through with a bag of food in his hands, “I got take ou-“ He stops mid-sentence as he looks back and forth between you and your father. You can tell by the way his eyes shake that he was contemplating backing out of the room. Quickly, taking his side, you grab a hold of his arm, “Hui, I think there’s something that my father has to say to you.”
Clearing his throat, your father says to Hui, “I think we got off on the wrong foot, and if you let me, I’d like to get to know you better.” It takes a moment for Hui to respond, but when he does, a smile breaks through his face, “I would like nothing more than that sir.”
A/n: yay! my first pentagon request! my requests are open, so if you want to, send something in! these are the groups I write for: x
a/n: I’ve always lowkey wanted to do some sort of mall series but never actually had a solid plot so we gonna just do this instead. and Seventeen will be mentioned bc I wanna do one for them and I want them all to work in the same mall and no one can stop me 😤
-
Lee Hoetaek
the manager at FYE
everyone calls him Hui though
really good at reading people and just kind of knowing what they’d like
but y’know he doesn’t wanna be creepy so he asks what kind of music they’re into
and then he can pull any album and know it’s perfect for you
you always go to him when you’re looking for new music
he’s also always up to recommend some new stuff you might not have listened to
knows the store inside and out
if you’re looking for a specific album, he knows exactly where to go
the friendliest dude ever
he loves that you ask him about music so he always gives you his discount
sometimes makes you mixtapes
but he got that idea from his co-worker, Hansol
-
Jo Jinho
assistant manager at Music Center
lowkey salty that the manager is Jihoon who’s way younger than him
but honestly together, the two run the store really smoothly
they do their best to help out the other employees who might not know as much
like Joshua, for example since he really only knows guitars
Jinho often sings to himself while he’s working but the customers lowkey love it
honestly you only go in there to listen to him sing
and because Josh flirts with you but that’s neither here nor there
one time you were looking at a keyboard so Jinho offered to ‘demo’ it for you
he’s so talented you don’t know why he’s not famous instead of just working in some music store
-
Yang Hongseok
works at GNC
flirts with pretty much everyone who walks through the door
but lowkey though
gives really good advice on how to stay fit and what things to use
knows everything about everything in that store
still wondering why he’s not manager
oh yeah it’s because Matthew is lmao
even though he’s more of a flirt, he does take his job seriously and is a genuinely sweet guy
one time after a bad day, he saw you sitting on the bench outside his store and he went and got you bubble tea from the place downstairs
you go to Hongseok when you’re stressed now and he’ll listen
-
Ko Shinwon
works at Gamestop
always laughs about how he’s glad he’s not the manager because all the workers get treated like garbo by 12 year old boys and their parents
so he teases Wonwoo for having to get the bulk of the trouble
gets yelled at for playing the game demos instead of working
takes too many breaks to go get food but then downs it all in the back room in like 3 minutes
tbh the only reason he hasn’t gotten fired is probably because they’re short staffed
but you like him because he plays the game demos with you
you think he’s funny and if he wasn’t there, Gamestop just wouldn’t be the same
-
Yeo Changgu
works at Build-A-Bear
does so well with the kids even when they’re bratty
you don’t go into the store because you’re embarrassed to but he sees you always staring at the Eevee Build-A-Bear and he’s waiting for the day you come in to make it
and yes he would absolutely make you do the heart ritual thing
and yes he would giggle at how red your face would get
he loves doing that to people his age when they come in
“can we skip the heart thing?” “absolutely not”
they get so embarrassed doing it and he lives for it
he takes his job seriously ok
-
Yanan
barista at Starbucks
might be the most handsome one there which makes his manager, Jeonghan lowkey salty
kinda slow when it comes to making drinks but nobody seems to care
how could you care?? look at him
whenever you go to get a drink from Starbucks and Yanan’s at the register, you always stutter and get blushy
but it’s fine because he always seem flustered talking to customers too
he usually doesn’t work register though
-
Adachi Yuto
works at Hot Topic
he likes it because the store just doesn’t give a shit about anything and hardly anyone goes in so he can just dick around with Wooseok all day
plus he gets a discount on all his goth clothing lmao
people will go in the store just to see him though
you sometimes go in there for shirts or for pop figures and stuff and he’s always really nice
quietly asks how you’re doing and if you need help finding anything to let him know
but he won’t ask Wooseok or Soonyoung to do their job
he’s not annoyed by it anyway so it’s fine
the only responsible worker there tbh
-
Kang Hyunggu
works at Bubble Bee
everyone calls him Kino
tbh half the reason anyone goes to get bubble tea is because of Kino
he’s just so smiley all the time and so sweet????
between him and his coworker, Seokmin, they really draw in a good amount of business
and y’know bubble tea is like a big trend now, so there’s that
makes the best taro bubble tea you’ll ever have in your life
one time he was working a shift alone and it got busy and he got your order wrong so now he always always always makes extra sure that it’s what you wanted
like he literally has you try it while you’re in front of him to make sure it’s good
send you off with the biggest smile and a “have a good day, _____!”
-
Jung Wooseok
works at Hot Topic
that one employee that does not give two shits about actually working
but he knows he’ll get away with it because as I said, Hot Topic does not give a frick
likes to change the music in the store to bubblegum jpop
Yuto lowkey likes it which is half the reason Wooseok does it
he’s always either fucking around at the counter with Yuto or giggling and fucking things up with Soonyoung in the back
if you ask him for help, he calls someone else over
literally does not do anything
you know well enough to not bother asking Wooseok for anything so he likes you
whenever you go up to the register, he calls to Yuto to give you his store discount and then says “keep up the good work” when you’re leaving
to this day, you have yet to ask him for assistance
[11:23pm] a groan left hui’s lips as his head dropped back against his chair, the work on his computer forgotten about for the next few moments. his fingers tangled in your hair as he guided your lips up and down his cock, biting his bottom lip.
“fuck, _____, you’re so good to me,” he sighed, looking down at you through hooded eyes.
you hummed in reply around his length, making him buck his hips into your mouth as he let out another moan. you figured this was the least you could do since he worked so hard in the studio for so long. besides, it gave you a chance to see him too, so it was a win/win.
taking as much of his length down your throat as you could manage, hui tossed his head back as he let out a high whine. his finger’s tightened in your hair as his thighs shook and he came down your throat without warning.
he slowly began to relax back in his chair as he came down from his high, releasing you from his grip. you swallowed everything as you pulled away from him, looking up at him with a slight smirk. when hui met your eyes, he closed his and laughed softly.
“thanks for the break,” he joked as he sat forward and wiped some white from the corner of your mouth with his thumb. he put the pad of it to your lips, and you opened your mouth to clean his finger. he smirked at you as he watched. “you know, i think i still have enough time to return the favor.”

order 004 for anon: large coconut milk tea (In THE DaRk by BOBBy) with regular tapioca pearls and fresh taro
Warnings: food mentions
Pairing: idol!Hui x delivery worker!reader
Summary: you deliver food to cube ent. and end up becoming friends with Hui, an idol who's at the peak of his career... but he finds himself falling for you even as his songs rise on the charts :")
Word count: like maybe 3k?
[a/n]: i love this request because i love this song and writing it while listening to the song on loop in the dark of my room just made me so happy? also i put wayyyy more effort into this than necessary and it turned out super long >.< i'm so sorry anonnie i hope you like itttt ahhh
Shine, you shine on my existence
Sure, Hui was an idol with a life of his own - especially now, during Shine promotions, that his group, PENTAGON, was blowing up. Yet he never failed to make time for you, because you were the light of his life.
As a hardworking idol who was always cooped up in his studio and skipping meals, his members encouraged him to at least order food. He was reluctant but eventually agreed, not wanting to make them worry.
That's where you came in: a delivery worker at a local restaurant not too far from Cube entertainment, Hui's company. A lot of people ordered from your restaurant to Cube, so you weren't surprised when a new order flashed on the iPad screen at your workplace.
"We've got another delivery, [y/n]," the worker at the front told you with a smile, walking to the back to tell the cooks what to prepare.
You tapped your feet against the ground, awaiting the order. Once it was prepared, you carefully placed it in your delivery bag, fastened it to your bike and off you went, wearing a helmet of course.
The gentle breeze was enough to cheer you up and give you energy, despite the scene around you being full of traffic and slightly bleak.
Once you arrived, the guards let you in without even checking your workplace ID this time, recognizing you as a trusted delivery person.
You made your way up to the floor listed on the order, roaming through countless hallways until you finally found the right room. Judging by the area and the doors, it seemed to be full of studios.
The person who ordered this must be working hard, you thought to yourself.
Suddenly, you got an urge to leave a note, wishing the person well. You took out a scrap piece of paper and a pen that you always had handy, your heart racing and your hands shaking at the thought of doing this. You were excited at the idea of the person being happy to see such a cheerful note...
I hope you enjoy this meal and that it gives you enough energy to keep working hard :) Go for it!
After neatly placing the food and note at the door, you knocked and walked away, not wanting to bother the person. Even though you didn't turn your back, you heard the door open a few seconds later.
"Thank you!" a voice echoed through the hall.
You turned quickly to say ‘you’re welcome’ in response and caught a glimpse of what seemed to be a young idol hard at work. His hair was messy and he had dark circles under his eyes, but his mismatches clothes and bright smile were quite cute.
You thought that would be the last you’d see of him, but from that day onwards, he always ordered food from your restaurant at the same time: 2:09pm. Why so specific? You weren’t sure, but that’s how it was, and you being the only delivery worker at your restaurant meant that it would always be you taking the food to him.
The second time you went, you were surprised to see a note waiting on the door for you.
Thank you for your cheerful message... I’ll do my best to work harder!
It made you smile and you decided to leave another note with his order, this time just asking him what his favourite side dishes were so you could tell the cooks to put more of those in next time. Instead of him leaving a note for you with the response, though, Hui decided to text you this time so he wouldn't have to wait for you to make another delivery before you could see his response.
Unknown: This is Hui! Ah, I ordered food from you at 2:09pm? I'm not really picky on side dishes, but one of my members likes kimchi, so could you make sure to leave more of that for me?
You: sure, of course! but how did you get my number?
Hardworking Hui: Ah, sorry! It was on the app since you're the delivery worker... for me to contact you in case you get lost? I'm sorry!
You: No, that's okay! i just wanted to be sure ^^
So after that day, you made sure Hui always got extra kimchi with his order. He would always greet you at the door of his studio, quickly asking about your day and how you were doing. Truthfully, he actually wanted to ask you to come inside so he could talk with you some more, because the two of you would always get an interesting conversation going before you declared you had to leave.
Since he was too shy to ask you in person, he texted you, instead.
Hardworking Hui: could you get the rest of the day off after delivering my order today?
You: why?
Hardworking Hui: so you can eat with me? if that's okay? or just take an hour off!
You: ...
You: Only if you pay for my food :P
Hardworking Hui: deal
So that day, you asked your manager for the hour off from 2:30pm to 3:30pm. She agreed, knowing that you always work hard and deserve a break.
Showing up to Hui's studio with his usual order and some food for yourself in your hands, you knocked a little nervously this time, knowing that this wouldn't just be a delivery, but a whole... hang out? Type of thing?
Hui had made sure to clean his studio to the best of his ability, making sure that there was another comfy chair for you to sit on and that the room didn't smell bad or anything. He lit a couple of candles and vacuumed the place so there would be no dust. When you knocked on the door, he jumped out of his seat with excitement, immediately opening it.
"Hi! Come in," he said, holding the door open so you could step inside. Seeing the cosy, dimly lit space left you in awe.
"It's so cool to see where you've been working away for all this time," you said, sitting down on a chair and putting the food down.
"Yeah... sometimes I get tired of it, but it's home," Hui said, sitting on his studio chair and opening up the food.
"Ah... where's the kimchi?" Hui asked, pointing at all the dishes.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I told the cook to include my favourite side dish too, but he must have just replaced the kimchi with this instead, I'm so sorry!"
Hui laughed, shaking his head.
"It's completely fine!" he said, handing you your favourite side dish.
As the two of you began eating, you were able to get to know each other more as you spoke and asked each other questions. Even though it was a little silly asking for each other's favourite colours and seasons, it was a lot of fun, and the two of you turned out to have a lot in common.
Tears are erased by my emotions / Add, add colour to the world
After that day, you weren't just a delivery worker for Hui, and he wasn't just a customer to you. The two of you became close friends, attending the concerts of your favourite artists together. Hui would joke and say that he was attending for work reasons, trying to gain musical inspiration, while you had no real reason to be there. You'd slap his shoulder lightly, telling him to watch his words while he'd laugh at your reaction.
Even though his work was stressful at times, it was days like those that seemed to make him cry in reverse, if that was even possible? You showed up and turned his world around, adding colour onto his black and white canvas.
His members even told him that he seemed more cheerful and energetic despite still working hard in the studio, and Hui even told you that his songwriting process seemed to be running more smoothly.
"I'm so glad we became friends," he told you, leaning his head on your shoulder one day as the two of you sat on a park bench. You smiled, strongly agreeing with him in your own heart.
But do you remember when I mentioned Shine promotions at the beginning of this? Well, let's skip forward to that point.
By then, you had seen Hui and his group perform quite a few times, whether it was at concerts, music shows or even on the TV at your home. You were incredibly proud of him and wanted nothing but for him to succeed.
Every time Hui found you in the crowd at any of his live performances, he'd feel some kind of crazy adrenaline rush as all of his tiredness just seemed to magically disappear. He'd perform as if rent was due just because you gave him the energy to do so.
"Was [y/n] watching us again?" Hyunggu asked backstage after another performance for Shine ended safely.
"Yeah, I saw them there!" Hongseok confirmed.
"Plus, you can tell by the way Hui is acting," Yuto laughed, nodding towards Hui who was frantically texting you asking you if you'd left completely.
You told him you were still at the venue, and he begged you to come backstage. When you arrived, you greeted all of the Pentaboys, who adored you almost as much as Hui did, before joining Hui at his makeup table. You greeted the makeup artist too, out of respect, before asking Hui why he needed to see you so urgently.
"We might win today... I just wanted you to be by my side as good luck," he explained, a clearly worried expression on his face.
It was a shock to you that despite Shine doing so well on the charts, Pentagon still had not gotten their first win, but you knew they were an amazing group, regardless.
What you doing now? What's your plan now?
You placed your hand on top of Hui's, which rested on his own thigh.
"Hui, I know you haven't been getting all the wins you've been expecting, but we can't deny that this song is absolutely a bop and you have all been killing it!" you told him with a smile.
You couldn't tell whether or not your words had any sort of effect on him because he was looking down, but you hoped they at least didn't make him feel worse.
The rest of the Pentaboys cheered hearing your words though, feeling energized at your honest observation.
Hui was looking down because his stomach was tied in knots at the feeling of your hand on his. It was something he'd never felt before... butterflies? He tried to shrug it off but he couldn't stop wondering about your intentions... did you place your hand over his for a reason? What were you trying to tell him? What were you planning?
Inside my brain, after making a place for you / You make it impossible for me to sleep
That night, Hui still couldn't stop thinking about your simple gesture. You didn't mean anything by it, right? It was just a friend comforting a friend... the two of you had been friends for a while now, so why was he thinking into this so much?
As feelings of sleepiness took over, he drowsily wondered what it would be like to hold your hand rather than to just have his hand underneath yours. What would it be like to be held by you?
-
The next day, with more promotions ahead, you made sure to send Hui a text of good luck. You wouldn't be able to watch from the live audience that day, since you had work and deliveries to carry out, but you still wanted him to know that you were thinking of him.
Hui couldn't stop staring at your message of good luck for the whole day, pressing his finger on the heart emoji that you added at the end of your message.
"Hui hyung, are you reading something?" Wooseok asked the leader, sitting beside him on the sofa in the waiting room.
"Huh? N-no," Hui quickly said with a laugh, tucking his phone away.
"You've been staring at your phone all day... what is it, is it a fun webtoon?"
"No, no! Don't worry about it," Hui laughed, ruffling the tall boy's hair.
Wooseok whined, yelling about how the stylist just did his hair. Meanwhile, Hui's heart was racing. Why had he been staring at your text message all day?
You: I'm thinking of you today, Hui! Go get em, good luck <3
Are you thinking of me in this dawn? / I wish there was a continuous portal from my room to yours
Again, that night, Hui couldn't stop thinking about you. This time, it was about the message you'd sent him. He still had it open and was staring at it. He wondered if, when you said you were thinking of him, did that mean you were thinking of him right then and there too? At the same time when he was thinking about you?
Were your sleepless thoughts filled with him, just like his were filled with you-?
Ring ring. Ring ring.
Shit.
He'd been staring at your text and holding his phone so tightly that he accidentally pressed the call icon next to your name.
"Hello?" you answered sleepily. It was 3am and you had been asleep.
"H-hello? [y/n]?"
"Yes, Hui, what is it?"
"I uh..."
He desperately tried to think of an excuse for calling you, any reason-
"I wish there was a portal that went directly from my room to yours."
Really, Hui? Was that the best thing you could think of?
His heart raced and he smiled as he heard your laugh on the other end. He didn't realize he'd balled his other hand into a fist until your laughter made him calm down.
"What are you saying, Hui?"
"I miss you..." he mumbled.
Despite being sleepy, his words still made you nervous. Your heart raced and you wondered what he was trying to tell you.
"I m-miss you too," you croaked out.
"Really?" Hui asked you, sitting up in bed.
"Yeah, really," you said, laughing. It wasn't a lie, either. You'd been watching all of his performances on your phone that day while working, almost falling off your bike because you were that invested. In him.
"Do you wanna meet up now?"
"Now?" you spluttered.
"Yeah... by the Han River?"
You paused for a while before answering.
"Let's do it."
Even if I breathe in the cold air / It feels sweet, so sweet
"AHHH IT'S SO COOOOLD!" Hui yelled into the night air, rubbing his arms and running around in circles beside you.
"Here, take my coat," you said, but instead just wrapping your arms around him.
Hui tensed up, wondering if your arm that was wrapped around his chest could feel his heartbeat.
"W-what are you doing?" he asked.
"Providing you with warmth," you said.
You also felt butterflies stirring within you, realizing that maybe you saw Hui as more than just a friend. Yet you shrugged it off, telling yourself that Hui was an idol and you were just a delivery worker.
You can't know my pathetic feelings / Even if I've confessed a hundred times inside my brain / I'm invisible to you
Hui stayed quiet, closing his eyes tightly and enjoying the feeling of being in your arms on this cold night. He knew this embrace wouldn't last and that maybe it wouldn't happen again, because in his mind, he was invisible to you. Just a friend who you goofed around with, but all of your jokes made his heart rush.
The two of you ran around the grassy banks of Han River together, laughing into the night and chasing each other like kids. Each time Hui caught up to you, he'd wrap his small frame around you so tightly that it made you lose your breath. You told yourself it was just because you were running so hard, but it was definitely something else.
As the sun was beginning to rise and the two of you were finally in your homes, trying to get some sleep, Hui imagined what it would be like to confess to you. What if he confessed right there and then when you hugged him by the Han River? What if he told you how much he likes you and... what if you felt the same? What if you cupped his cheeks in your hands and kissed him right there as the river reflected the starlight from the sky...? What if Hui would drop his phone in shock but would kiss you back more passionately?
No, Hui. No.
If I ever want you to feel the same / That must be greedy, that'd probably be a chance to peek into heaven / 'Cause you are angel
There was no way any of that would ever happen. There was no way you would ever like him back, at least for Hui. You were way too good for him, an angel on this planet full of demons and sinners.
Little did he know that you were also squinting at the sun, struggling to get some sleep as you thought of the way Hui would press his face into your chest every time he caught up to you at the Han River as you chased each other for fun. His bright smile and gentle laughter made your heart feel like the Han River itself, gently flowing along but filled with such a refreshing feeling.
After another week of intense Shine promotions, Hui feeling all sorts of emotions as Shine continued to soar while his feelings for you also grew, it became unbearable. The two of you would talk late into the night, whether it was sending texts because Hui was busy working or whether it was phone calls. Hui thought about you every second of every day and always missed you a ton.
Please know that I like you / I just want to be there for the rest of your life
Hui asked you to meet him in his studio one evening, as he knew your work schedule and knew that you were free. You agreed, slightly confused as to how he was making time to meet with you despite being so busy.
"Hui, I'm here!" you sang, opening the door to his studio and finding him sitting there in his chair, looking especially cute as his hair was slightly ruffled and he wore a big, comfy hoodie.
"[y/n], I have to tell you something," he said, with a slightly sad smile.
"Yeah, what is it?"
You grew worried, but decided not to make a fuss over anything just yet.
"So, for some time now.... well, of course we've been good friends, and I don't want this to ruin that if you don't feel the same..."
He sighed mid-sentence.
"Gosh, I don't know why I'm rambling," he said with a laugh.
You instinctively laughed along.
"Well, [y/n]. I like you... a lot. I know it's pathetic for me to feel this way when I don't even deserve you, but-"
"You like me?" you cut him off.
Hui nodded in response, looking slightly red now.
Nervous and absolutely bewildered, you starting laughing to yourself, making Hui worry if he'd said something wrong.
"Hui, I... I like you too, what the hell?! And here I was thinking I was pathetic!"
"You're not pathetic at all!" Hui said, grinning widely and bright red in the face upon hearing your answer to his confession.
Both of you nervously smiled at each other for some time before Hui broke the silence.
"I know... it may be hard to date me... well no, it will be hard to date me since I'm an idol, but I promise I'll give this my everything. It's a given, because of how much I like you and how lucky I am for you to even date me-"
"I never said I was dating you," you joked.
"What?" Hui asked in shock.
"I'm joking! Hui, it's okay. We'll get through these difficulties together, whatever they may be," you said, holding half of his face in your right hand, stroking his cheek with your thumb.
Hui leaned into your touch, closing his eyes.
"You're right," he said, before turning his face and pressing his lips to your hand.

To be hardworking means being able to get tasks done once they were started. Unfortunately, sometimes one can become too focused on a task that they forget to take care of themselves or events.
That was the case for Hui.
There was so much that needed to be done, deadlines to be met and tracks to be sampled. Honestly, it was too much at times but Hui tried his best to push the tiredness away and continue to work hard. He knew that all of the late nights and early mornings were worth it.
Most days you would wake up to see his side of the bed empty but some days you were lucky enough to catch him before he crossed the threshold. You groggily wiped the sleep from your eyes as you walked to the bathroom. Once you were done with your morning routine, you quickly made your way to the kitchen where you found Hui.
His back was to you as he poured himself a cup of coffee. When you figured he was done, you walked towards him and placed a kiss on his cheek. A chuckle escaped Hui as he pulled you into his arms.
“Good morning,” he gently cupped one side of your face.
Your eyes closed for a second at his touch, “Morning. Headed to the studio?”
Hui hummed, “Yeah, there’s so much that needs to be done before next week,” he frowned but a smile quickly took its place, “I’ll try to get home early, okay?”
You nodded. Sleep was still in his eyes as he sipped his coffee. For a moment, you took in his current state. Bags were forming under his eyes and his shoulders seemed tense. A sigh left your lips as you soothingly rubbed his back, trying to somehow melt away his worries and give him enough energy to get through the time he was going to spend at the studio.
Hui checked the time on his phone and his eyes grew wide.
He hurriedly pulled on a sweater and kissed you, “I love you.”
“Love you too.”
****
Morning melted into the afternoon and the once cloudy sky became clear. You spent the rest of the day tidying up around your shared apartment and got a bit of work done. Dinner was nearly done when you heard a few knocks on the door. You quickly stirred the pot before you opened the door.
You were met with a laughing group of boys. Wooseok and Shinwon were laughing at something on Hyunggu’s phone while Yuto only shook his head, remnants of a smile on his face. Once they all calmed down, they greeted you and you invited them in. All of you filed into your, sort of, tiny kitchen, and complete silence settled over all of you.
You looked at the boys questioningly as they all avoided your gaze.
“C’mon, what’s wrong? You were all laughing just a few minutes ago?”
Shinwon exhaled, “We think Hui forgot about your anniversary.”
With furrowed brows, you continued to cook. Hui couldn’t have forgotten but the more you thought about you concluded that he forgot. You looked at the time and your phone and it was half-past eight. Slowly, you put down the spoon you were holding and faced the boys.
“He did but it’s okay.”
It only took a minute before you rushed around the kitchen in search of a reusable container to put food in. When you finally found a container you realized it was too high up and Wooseok helped you get it. You thanked him and told all of them to help themselves to the food while you tugged on sneakers and a hoodie.
“Please lock the door behind you if I’m not back soon,” you hurriedly filled a container with food, “I’m gonna check on Hui, okay?”
The boys barely heard you as they helped themselves to the food. With a smile and a shake of your head, you left.
****
Within about thirty minutes, you arrived at the studio. On the way, you were met with a little rain and managed to wait it out under the awning of an Italian restaurant which is where you able to score a bottle of wine and dessert. That was enough to make your smile grow.
The smile on your face never wavered during your walk. Yes, Hui may have forgotten your fourth anniversary but it wasn’t the end of the world. You knew that he was so focused on meeting deadlines so, it was understandable that he forgot. It didn’t change anything between you.
As you took the elevator up you received a text from Hyunggu and the others. The text included a picture of an empty pot and you could only shake your head. The elevator dinged and before you knew it, you were stood outside the door of the boys’ studio.
Quietly, you entered and were met with a focused Hui with headphones on that you bought him a few birthdays ago. The studio was clean aside from an empty takeout box, from lunch you assumed, and a few disposable coffee cups.
Careful not to disturb him, you threw away the trash and crept up behind and rested your hands on his shoulders. Hui jumped slightly and you placed a hand on your mouth to muffle your laughter. Once the initial shock wore off, he took off the headphones, hair all over his head, and turned in his chair to face you.
“You scared me,” he let out a breathy laugh, “what are you doing here?”
You fixed his hair and he leaned into your touch, gaze stuck on you. Hui stifled a yawn and you slowly pulled your hand away to place it on his cheek.
“Just thought I’d bring you dinner,” you sat the containers down, “it’s our favorite.”
Hui grinned at the food and his brows narrowed in confusion at the wine.
“I could definitely use a glass,” he gestured towards the bottle, “but what are we celebrating?”
Hui searched his brain for something that he forgot and at first, he came up short but then he remembered the date. It almost felt like his heart had dropped and it rendered him speechless. His hands rubbed at his face before he rested his face in his hands. How he was able to forget such an important date was beyond him and he couldn’t help but beat himself up.
It only took him a few strides across the room to reach you and pull you into a hug. For a moment, there was only silence until you heard, and felt, a sob shake through Hui. As gently as you could, you untangled yourself from him a bit and watched the tears fall.
“Hui, it’s okay.”
He sniffled and tried to compose himself, “No. It’s not. I shouldn’t have forgotten. I wanted it to be perfect.”
You could slowly feel a pang in your chest. Everyone forgets things, which you voiced, but you didn’t want him to be so hard on himself about it. Sure, it was your anniversary but it wasn’t a big deal that he forgot because you knew that he had a lot on his plate. There was still time for both of you to celebrate.
“Hey, it’s fine. We can still have dinner,” you used your thumb to wipe away a few tears, “please don’t feel bad about this.”
Hui nodded, “I just wanted this to be special, you know,” he fished around in his pocket and pulled out a little velvet box.
“And it is,” you kissed him softly, “whether or not you planned something, my answer would always be the same, Hui.”
Hui opened the box to reveal a beautiful ring. He looked from the box to you with a questioning gaze on his face and all it took was a nod from you for the brightest of smiles to form on his face. Once the ring was placed on your finger, Hui drew you into the sweetest kiss.
Hui pulled away to saying something but was interrupted by cheers from the door. The two of you both turned to see what was going on and were met with the rest of the boys.
You laughed and rested your head on Hui’s shoulder before you looked up at him. He didn’t look so tense anymore and you were thankful for that. Yes, there were different scenarios of how things could have turned out but neither of you would have changed anything.
