My UglyDolls Human AU Names:
(Not part of the Built May A Doll Challenge. I just wanted to share these)
Heads up: I used to frequent in the Ace Attorney fandom. So prepare for a lot of pun names and word play… Also some play at the VA names too.
Also, since prettydolls have very normal names this is mostly just the main ‘ugly’ cast. The only prettydolls in this list is Mandy and Lou. Every other prettydoll will get a last name if it’s convenient.
…
• Moxy = Moxxine Clarke
- I… don’t think I need to explain the last name anymore.
- “Moxxine” like “Maxine” (we can argue I could’ve just stuck to “Moxy” but the name sounded too simplistic for the Human AU… I wanted to make things complicated for myself 🙃)
• Ox = Sheldon Oxford
- The “Sheldon” is from the “Shelton” in Blake Shelton
- Nicknamed “Ox” because the honorific evolved from “Mr. Oxford” to “Mr. Ox” to just Ox… when he got more casual at work.
- (Also, he doesn’t like using his step family’s last name. That’s why he and Lou have different last names.)
• Ugly Dog = Dougly Matte
- I just removed one “g” and switched the rest of it around…
- Matte sounds like “Mutt” (kinda…? Nah. It doesn’t. But you get the point.)
- “Ugly Dog” is his DJ name in this AU. Fun explanation: He was a football underdog (lol get it?) back in highschool, and the cheerleaders called him ugly a lot, making it his DJ name is his reclamation.
Lydia: “Why Ugly Dog, exactly? That’s a weird dj name.”
Dougly: “Well excuse me! Snoop Dog and Slick Dogg were already taken. Same goes for really cool breed names like Pitbull. —DJ Labrador or Husky sounds godawful.”
Lydia: “And you thought ‘Ugly Dog’ would be cooler?”
Dougly: “There’s literally a dj out there who named himself after a rat that died in his computer, and everyone loved it! My name’s cool!”
• Wage = Miriam Wager
- Miriam (closest sounding to “minimum”);
- Minimum Wage(r)
- No further explanations
• Babo = Barney Bobbins
- There’s this character in a nickelodeon show “100 Things” named “Christian Powers”. His nickname is “Crispo” —I remember being jealous that my first and last name do not mix well enough to do the same. Elementary up to college, and I still got no cool nickname.
- But I used that ‘name play’ thing for Babo.
- This… was the most scattered train of thought I had for this list… lol.
- He looks like a ‘Barney’, right?
• Lucky Bat = Lucian Batin
- Probably my weakest one but you get the vibe, right?
- No special explanation, I just googled ‘L’ names
- Uh…. Okay, how about this: His nickname used to be “Lu” but it got awkward when Lou joined their ‘circle’. And so they nearly went with “Luci” but that sounded too feminine for him. Moxy started calling him “Lucky”.
• Lou = Louis Jonaire (Lou Jonas)
- I decided that since Lou is not a doll here, I didn’t want his last name to be “Carrington”.
- You all already know where I got the “Jonas” from.
- He has two last names because, Jonaire is his real last name, and Jonas is his stage name.
- Reason: His mom (Hildegard lol) is a Prima Donna (opera singer). He gets Nepo Baby slander even though his career is more on acting and pop-culture music, and he’s very much hardworking.
- He decided to go with “Lou Jonas” to have a separate public identity.
- Why he went with “Jonas”: When he first met up with his manager (that he found online), he gave her his papers to handle his calls (?) —How the frick does this work? How do you hire managers? And what managers do?
- His manager —Mandy— was unfortunately getting her glasses corrected on the same day and so couldn’t read his name properly. She ended up pronouncing his name wrong during a call.
- He found out about it too late, but decided to go with it because it sounded “trendier”.
(A pettier reason why I had to give Lou two last names, was because “Hildegard Jonas” sounded ridiculous. But I still wanted to keep the nod to Nick Jonas. And that’s how I discovered “Jonaire” —How Mandy read it wrong is up to you to imagine…)
• Mandy = Mandy Monclair
- Second weakest… Again. I just googled names. 🫠
- Because of that “Monáe” I thought her full name being an alliteration would be cute.
- But it sounded too much like a “celebrity” rather than a “celebrity’s manager”, so I had to hunt for ‘M’ last names, preferably one I can still associate with Monáe.
