Gee Cross Well Dressing 2015

Yesterday, 13 July, along with the community I was proud to be part of the 2015 Gee Cross Well Dressing event. This year, in its 16th year, taking in six well dressings decorated by local community groups (including the Gee Cross WI) and local schools.

Although not quite blue sky above, the weather was warm and thankfully there was no rain. The weather pretty much perfect then to see some great art work and hear of the work of local schools and groups in making the dressings - all of which were very impressive. 

The ‘march’ was lead by Denton Brass Band, who were nothing short of fantastic. This was followed by a service at Hyde Chapel, which as always was fun, entertaining and full of learning.

Apprenticeships in Hyde

I am a lover of Apprenticeships as an opportunity to offer young people a mechanism for learning and earning. I've spoke about it before on the Tameside Labour blog, but talk is cheap.

Apprenticeships Beyond "Young People"

I am a believer in Apprenticeships for Everyone. I want anyone who wants to be an apprentice to have the chance to do so. This could be a young person (16-21) but also it could equally be a 30 year old who didn't do so well at school and wants a second chance to gain some skills to improve their lives. Apprenticeships should be for everyone.

So, as well as pledging my support for Apprenticeships in Tameside for young people I also pledge it for Apprenticeships for All. Let's "upskill" Tameside and as wella s improving the lives of these people we can also help grow our local economy through locally driven business.
