Had to skim through Gotham War yesterday to find those panels for that one anon, and once again received lethal brain damage from how STUPID Selina's plan is, and most of the flaws of this plan? Aren't even adressed. Like I need to rant for a moment here I can't even.
So, yeah, indeed, a lot of hemchmen are in it because they are desperate. But why is your solution to give them the skills for another type of crime, instead of, oh, I don't know..... to legally gain a well paying position with benefits? They way BRUCE DOES??
It is also extremely short-sighted, because the thing with expensive shit is that it is limited. That's one of the reasons it's so expensive. All these art pieces and jewels are rare or one of a kind. Eventually the city will simply run out of wealthy people to steal such things from OR the wealthy ppl will ctach on to the increased rate of burglary and move their shit somewhere else. What happens then? Your guys still do not have skills to have a good legal empoyment. They will either have to move targets towards the middle class, or start stealing from each other because they are now the new elite. 15% is such a tiny amount when we are talking about consistently stealing jewels worth of millions. What will this new elite do with their money? Are there any guarantees they won't spend it the same way these wealthy people do, on frivolous things instead of, idk, creating jobs in the city?
All these rules she gave them, she has no way to enforce besides relying on the honor of the people she barely knows (as Jason points out, so there is at least that part addressed), so there is no guarantee they won't actually kill anyone to get their cash after the training is over and they are independant like she wants them to be. These people worked with the most sadistic rogues, they have to be desentised to lethal violence at this point.
It also shouldn't even work this way because mnost of the rogues started their crimes without any henchmen, they are perfectly capable of enacting crime on their own (as is shown later in the arc, but the fact that, say, Scarecrow of all people, took this long to act seemingly due to "lack of henchmen" is ridiculous). It also doesn't stop the rogues from simply shipping people in from other cities or even countries.
Selina doesn't achieve any systemic change here, the reasons why people are desperate are still there, can she train all the newly minted henchemen fast enough to get them out of this villain rotation system, and what will happen when the city is oversatured with burglars?? Also, there are multiple points where her "desciples" are stealing from museums, and it's treated as a test made by her once, and like hello?? You are not stealing from the rich here!! If these are public museums - and it seems that they are, - then you are going against your stated goals! It is never addressed! And the fact that most of batfamily, the detective family, agree with her based on TWO POINTS OF DATA, and the only rebuttal that Bruce has is that his parents were the rich she purposes to steal from???? Like yeah, true, but I'd expect More from the world's greatest detective.
And the blatant disregard for all the previous canon of Bruce spending money on the city and why they didn't marry, or apparently his "lack of compassion"??? The only reason her "plan" achived the 75% crime drop is because the writers are stupid This is such a prime example of characters being only as smart as the writers are I can't even
