gotham war jason makes me choke up and cry so much - he needs someone to love him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jason hadn't moved. He wasn't sure what to feel, or if he could feel anything other than just fear. Absolute crippling fear. He slipped down against the wall, his knees drawn up to his chest as tears dripped down his face.
Everything was numb and overwhelming all at once.
"Jason?" A voice called out to him and he flinch.
The closer it got, the more he shook with fear. He knew that voice, your voice, but he wasn't ready for more heartbreak and more disappointment and more-
"Jay?" You spoke again, spotting him on the floor in the rubble. "I've been looking everywhere for you- I had to track you through the comms and-" You paused, seeing his dishevelled state. "What happened?" You crouched down.
"Bruce- Bruce did something-" He whispered, his voice shakey. "I- I can't- I'm not- not- not myself-" He looked up at you, his eyes bloodshot and tearful. "I'm so scared-"
"Hey- What are you talking about? Scared of what?" You cupped his face, confused, trying to assess the situation.
"Everything." He blinked and the tears fell. "I'm scared of everything."
"What the fuck did Bruce do?" You whispered to yourself, trying to figure out if it was psychological or magical or something else entirely. "Can you stand? I'll help you get home-"
"No." His voice was sharp, even in its panic. "I- I can't- We-"
"Okay- Okay. Let's just-" You sat down on the floor too. "We'll just stay here a moment, okay?" He nodded and you scooted closer. "Is this alright?" He nodded again and you reached to hold his hands, which he grabbed onto like his life depended on it.
Then he just... folded. Sighed. His head against your shoulder, his breathing shallow as he inhaled in your familiar scent.
"Everyone left." His voice was shaky. He looked at you, with glassy eyes, "Please- Please don't go-"
"I'm here. I'm right here." You assured him. "Not going anywhere. Promise."
Jason nodded again and took a shaky breath, exhaling and leaning back against the wall. After a while, he spoke again. "I'm so tired."
"I know baby." You whispered. "We'll go home soon. Then figure out a plan from there."
"Okay..." He swallowed and took another deep breath. "This helps. You help. Whatever Bruce did- It's quieter with you here."
"I'm glad." You leaned and kissed his temple, then smoothed out his hair.
I know WFA is too OOC for some people, but I need that shit right now.
I do love seeing the Batfam beating the shit out of each other. I like how messy their relationships are and I have always loved flawed characters.
But idk, man, Batman #138 just really crossed a line for me and I need a reminder that there are other depictions of Bruce that aren't so fucking heinous.
jason todd fic recs but it's regarding certain canon events/topics i have a very normal amount of interest in
said topics being: the batarang incident, the garzonas case, bomb under the batmobile, gotham war, rhato 25, bruce bringing jason back to the magdala valley, and sheila haywood haunting the narrative
batarang incident / mute!jason fic recs (fics that concerns the batarang scar and the potential outcome of jason becoming mute because of it)

Ever Wonder by @disniq
The last time Dick saw Jason in civvies he was 14, short for his age and all chubby, rosy cheeked enthusiasm. He’s none of those things now - broad shouldered and tall, eyes sunken above hollow cheeks, skin as grey as the granite headstone before him.

oliver and red hood team up. oliver finds out red hood is jason todd, and calls batman about bruce wayne's second son coming back from the dead. oliver doesn't know batman and bruce wayne are the same person. it leads to an uncomfortable reunion and oliver giving bruce a piece of his mind.

mute jason || Red Hood kept his distance from the Bats. They had something akin to a truce, but they always maintained a healthy level of mutual wariness and animosity. None of them knew him, not in any way that mattered, and he was content keeping things that way. Unfortunately, secrets had a way of coming to light.

only my body for a voice by @six-miscellaneous-nebulae
mute jason || “It’s that ‘word will get around’ that Hood’s apprehensive of, because Batman keeps a ridiculously close eye on every dead body that appears in Red Hood’s territory—not because he gives a shit, he doesn’t, but because for some godforsaken reason he’s decided that he can only abide murder if it’s performed by any other costumed freak besides Jason.”
Say Something by @skalidra
mute jason, jayroy || When Roy settles down onto a Gotham rooftop to wait for a target, just about the last thing he's expecting is for some random - not a Bat - vigilante to drop down and get comfortable next to him. The guy's maybe a little strangely avoidant of his questions, but he doesn't seem like he means any harm, and it certainly doesn't hurt that he's handsome too.

It comes in two parts; Gotham, rioting. Stained with her prodigal son's blood and fearing his absence. Something has to change, and Tim is willing to be the catalyst Jason will need.
And the second; War, looming. A monarch presented with a betrayal of intergalactic consequence. If Batman is going to attempt to assassinate her consort, he'd best be prepared for the consequences.

And here’s the thing—no one else is hyperventilating from fear. No other person, rogue, villain, crime lord, slightly unhinged anti-almost-hero, take your pick, has been fucked up the same seven ways to Sunday that Jason was. Is. Whatever.
He thought he got it, but apparently he doesn’t, because this wasn’t Batman using Jason as a test subject, as a prototype, because it hasn’t happened to anyone else.

There is a grave in Gotham City with Jason Todd's name on it. He's made his peace with that fact. Finding out that the headstone next to his bears the name 'Sheila Haywood', though...
No matter how good Bruce's intentions were, this is one truth Jason can't let stay buried.
gotham war for jason is like when your parents are fighting while simultaneously taking it out on you instead of on each other. then when it's over, they act like it was just a casual wednesday for them. meanwhile you have an entirely new piece of trauma that's gonna dictate the rest of your life and the relationships you form
